Confirmed Signing Jack Grealish

That's how you strengthen a squad: bring in better players than you have.
Right and then he leaves.

This is the issue. It’s a loan. We’re better today, finish mid table, and then it’s gone.

We are not even half a season removed from playing 2+ years of relegation level football. I would love for the turnaround to be quick but the more likely path is this year is one where we set the foundation for us to start competing for Europe again. This move just fundamentally can’t be a part of that foundation. It also could (to be very clear I’m not saying it will, just it could) be damaging towards the pieces that are in that foundation.

I just can’t support it from that standpoint.

This makes more sense, but then a week after signing KDB it would mean the latter is played further back next to Gueye? As we’re not in the place for £25m subs yet.

Could be Moyes does that Christmas tree formation he’s tried in pre season I suppose.

My real concern with this would be shattering our wage structure for a loan player. But as 1) he hasn’t signed yet and 2) we got no knowledge of that it’s a speculative anxiety really.

The wage structure argument is the one I’d be most inclined to accept, but all summer so far we’ve heard shouts of “we were promised elite players”, “do what it takes to land targets”, etc. If we were going to make a statement signing of any kind then the wage structure and or/transfer record was always gonna be troubled.

You’d like to think that players can see what we’re trying to do with this kind of short term play and get behind it in their own quest for improvement/European footy. Defo the potential to backfire and unsettle some, but I guess that’s where Davey earns his corn.

I suppose we haven’t replaced Jesper Lindstrøm or Jack Harrison yet (both of whom got plenty of time on the pitch for us last season when needed) and we’re going to need to add players like this to the squad. If say we brought this fella and someone like Dibbling in then it doesn’t really matter about the starting 11 as such, over the season everyone plays between injuries suspensions and substitutions and we’ll hopefully have better quality on the pitch no matter who plays.

Yes please.
Just to highlight what good retorts look like on here. Moderate, respectful posting, it could catch on. CRUSH a dar today so they can’t breed.

Grealish in the side improves our chances of finishing higher in the League and winning a cup.

End of story.

We may be in a position to extend the loan for another year - or make him permanent if it works out. If he fails, he's gone in 12 months with no lasting financial damage.

With Everton, it's always "jam tomorrow" - but we have to improve the squad NOW. Next year is a different challenge for a different time. We may have a new manager then. We will definitely have new players.

The idea of some organic "build" to greatness over 10 years is for the birds. Good financial decisions backed by BIG money is the route to the top. It's why Brighton and Brentford and Bournemouth for all their savvy planning still can't and won't make the Champions League and why Spurs, whose planning collapsed, did. Big clubs have big advantages.

We're a big club. Time to finally act the part.

I’m not talking about 10 years I’m talking about 3.

Are we backed by big money? I mean comparatively the answer is no right?

Acting like a “big” club is why the Moshiri era became an unmitigated disaster.
