Confirmed Signing Jack Grealish

This makes more sense, but then a week after signing KDB it would mean the latter is played further back next to Gueye? As we’re not in the place for £25m subs yet.

Could be Moyes does that Christmas tree formation he’s tried in pre season I suppose.

My real concern with this would be shattering our wage structure for a loan player. But as 1) he hasn’t signed yet and 2) we got no knowledge of that it’s a speculative anxiety really.
I suppose we haven’t replaced Jesper Lindstrøm or Jack Harrison yet (both of whom got plenty of time on the pitch for us last season when needed) and we’re going to need to add players like this to the squad. If say we brought this fella and someone like Dibbling in then it doesn’t really matter about the starting 11 as such, over the season everyone plays between injuries suspensions and substitutions and we’ll hopefully have better quality on the pitch no matter who plays.

Big oil seems to forget we lose Ndiaye for a month (amongst others) let alone the fact we might possibly have a season with options so that we can finally rotate players for a change.
I think we can cover four matches without him. I also don’t really feel like we need to rotate all that much? We have 38 matches, plus however many league cup games where we will put out a joke lineup for the first three rounds no matter who we have available, and then the 6 cup games max which will only create actual fixture congestion if we get to the quarterfinals or beyond.

Without Europe your best players can conceivably play 35 plus games in the season.

I'd understand the complaints if we were signing him for £30m or something but it's a loan.

Turning your nose up to Grealish when we've had Lindstrom, Harrison & McNeil out wide is just... no words.
He will also likely input more than all of them combined and when you consider their aggregate salaries are likely to be at least equal, if not more that’s ok.

The wage structure argument is the one I’d be most inclined to accept, but all summer so far we’ve heard shouts of “we were promised elite players”, “do what it takes to land targets”, etc. If we were going to make a statement signing of any kind then the wage structure and or/transfer record was always gonna be troubled.

You’d like to think that players can see what we’re trying to do with this kind of short term play and get behind it in their own quest for improvement/European footy. Defo the potential to backfire and unsettle some, but I guess that’s where Davey earns his corn.
Exactly. If these owners can give Moyes enough good players - whatever the cost - he has to make that work.

No it's not easy at all, only in you're mind, get a right winger with pace and Grealish could well be the difference for us qualifying for Europe, which means attracting better players next year when Jack returns to City, think further ahead big oil, see the bigger picture.
Building a strategy around an eventuality that is more than likely not going to occur is a very poor seeing of the bigger picture!

I really believe this team will be fun and solid this year. To get Europe they have to be better than a handful of teams they just aren’t better than yet.

Tell Mykolenko that.

It’s what it takes to get the deal done mate. It would appear this is one that Moyes really wants so we’re getting him in. There’s gonna be a “what if?” with every transfer. I imagine if I go into the KDH thread now there’s gonna be some takes that already stink to high heaven.

Personally I’m excited about this one, and you’re obviously not. Let’s meet back here in a few months so I can parade your metaphorically severed head to the masses while Spirit of the Blues climbs high in the charts again.
Well this is why you don’t bring David Moyes back to a club that needs to do a slow and steady rebuild back to consistent top half finishes, but I digress.
