The 2025/26 Relegation Battle Thread

Starting to get concerned now. So pre season has told us that we have nothing up front, and we are very leaky at the back. Could be another long season for us. I suspect we aren’t out of the relegation picture as some suspect. We need 5 quality additions to this team.

We need a RB, RW, CM and ideally another attacking option.

Today’s game highlighted what we all know - weak on the right, no real pace in the team and a lack of squad depth.

I’m concerned that we can’t fix all of these in the last 3 weeks of the transfer window.

Maybe we should stop chasing a luxury signing like Grealish and get back to basics.

What I saw today gives me way more confidence than the squad that started last season under Dyche. We’re already improved. We weren’t even starting Beto or Jake. We’re miles off that. We’ll be sitting on substantially more points in December than what Moyes inherited.

My concern really is that the squad again is paper thin and we’ve brought in 4 (Alvarez was already here) players. I think the promoted teams are also quite a lot stronger, and all have spent a lot of money in the summer, we’ve been stingy again. In September if we’ve brought in 5 very good additions I’ll be much happier though. It’s just as things stand it is a worry.

The drop in standard after the subs today highlighted the lack of depth.

I think we need 4 new players capable of playing in the first XI.

This current squad is about 2 serious injuries away from a certain relegation battle.

People can try and laugh and make out that we're brilliant or that Barry is going to score 25 goals and solve all our problems, but we have major problems that need resolving quickly.

If the window closed tomorrow and then Branthwaite and Pickford got season-ending injuries, we're seeing Coleman starting games at left back and we have no right winger on the books—that's relegation material.

Thankfully there is still time to avoid that scenario coming to fruition, and surely the club will at least address the right wing problem soon, which is the biggest one of all.

There needs to be a handful of signings before the window closes, with at 2 as regular starters.

I should say I don't think we're in any danger of a relegation battle because we have enough decent players in the squad to at least comfortably get us safe. That and the obvious fact that there is still time for the recruitment team to actually get off their arses and do some work.

With the current squad I'd snatch your hand off for 17th unfortunately. Two or three proper first team signings then we could push for lower mid table, maybe around 12th ish.
