Confirmed Signing Tyler Dibling

The fact we changed our recruitment team ahead of a summer where we needed 10 players, doesn't appear to have been the best move.

I'm sure we are behind where we should be by this stage of the summer. So we are going to have to play catch up and show a lot more urgency.

Finding out valuations and whether players are interested shouldn't be that difficult. Closing deals is the difficult part.
When you have little no mark clubs like Southampton asking for 50m for their 2 goals a season winger, then you know you are in serious trouble.

We know the market is going mad. You either pay the price if you want a young English player or you look for up and coming players in lesser leagues who will cost less.

Ipswich are turning down 35m plus for Hutchinson, who I believe is not as good as Dibling. So you aren't going to be able to negotiate deals down significantly. You might get a few quid off the deal but it's not going to be a huge amount.

The decisions this month will be to pay the price if we want players who have played in the league before. Or move on and sign players from other leagues who haven't played in England

I dont agree that you pay the price, not when the price is too high.

You are working to a 16th August deadline, sadly the club is working to a 1st September deadline.

Disappointed but not surprised.

One day we will get revenge on Southampton.
It's probably posturing. Remember how difficult and prolonged signing Richarlison and Siggurdson were. They were off on multiple occasions but based on experience these negotiations have passed the point of no return. The deal will get done, just a matter of when. Seem to recall Liverpool having similar issues when they bought VVD off Southampton. Complaints about tapping up and all sorts. Just posturing.

Which is the correct deadline. Going over PSR cost us more points than are available prior to 1 September. And I still fancy us to alright even if we don't sign anyone else.

some serious brinksmanship from all sides here. From Southampton's end - you don't put out a counter offer if you aren't looking to cash in. They went to Ornstein with that info because he's one of the most respected journos out there.
meanwhile we've clearly reached out to Joyce and told him to say we're not budging.

No doubt behind the scenes conversations are ongoing because both parties want the deal to happen - the player wants the deal to happen but someone needs to buckle and to be fair to Southampton they are well within their right to demand what they feel is fair. We did the same with Jared.

For Southampton to blink It might need the player to hand in a transfer request. Maybe that's the hope our end.
Or we pay what they want. Ultimately if we truly believe the player is as good as we think he is then you take the risk and pay the money. If we don't believe he's worth that money why are we even wasting our time. Move on to the next target.
This was my first thought

I dont think you pay 50m for Dibling either. I think you only get value by signing younger players from other leagues. I'm just saying those are your options in August. You either have to accept and pay the valuation or go and sign other less well known players.

Yes I think game 1 is the true deadline. Our record in August is abysmal because we don't do our business early enough and leave managers with about 14 senior players for pre season.

You don't need all your business done when the league starts but you need to have most of it done. Right wing and right back were definitely priorities that needed to be sorted out early.

Player doesn’t want it.

If he did he would have forced their hand.

Probably holding out for one of the big 4 to get him in January or next summer.
