Or he stays, doesn’t get an injury has a great season in the championship and gets them back into the premier league.
That could happen but my understanding is that Southampton did allow the player to talk to Everton which would indicate a readiness to sell. I think it is clear they need the money, TD is their most saleable asset and they are trying to get as much for him as possible.... which imo is very reasonable.

If they really wanted him to stay they could have shut everything down as Villa have over any reported interest in McGinn.

The risk they run is they keep TD, they don't get promoted and six months later he can go to Europe for absolutely no fee or at best a tribunal if he stays in England.

Southampton may appear to be in a strong place but are not really.

Been far too quiet in the last few days. We can't be playing this who blinks first with Southampton for too long, either give them an ultimatum or move on quick.

Unless Everton begin actively pursuing another player for the position, I think it's safe to assume this is going to continue for a good couple of weeks yet. And the outcome at the end of that really is anyone's guess. Seems both sides are in for the long haul in the assumption the other with relent.
The other thing from a saints point of view
If they want Fellows as a replacement, the longer it goes and the later it gets West Brom put the price up, it has a knock on effect down the line, the 5mil more trying to get off Everton, they end up giving to West Brom

Already gone up to 20 when we agreed think was about 12 mill for us. Just hope not anither gnonto and if the club is still in for him is more hopeful of getting it done. Would hope everton is talking to other wingers

Soton need to think back to WBA and Saido Berahino when Spurs went for him at 19 / 20 years old and WBA prevented his move.
Soured his relationship with WBA and that form (20 goals iirc) in his initial season never returned.

Tbh if i was them I'd be more worried about the fact hes got two years left on his contract and their in the championship.

If they're saying hes worth £50m then they have to play him and if i was dibbling I wouldnt be signing a new contract. Come next summer they'll of developed him another year and he'll be worth half of what we've offered for him.

some serious brinksmanship from all sides here. From Southampton's end - you don't put out a counter offer if you aren't looking to cash in. They went to Ornstein with that info because he's one of the most respected journos out there.
meanwhile we've clearly reached out to Joyce and told him to say we're not budging.

No doubt behind the scenes conversations are ongoing because both parties want the deal to happen - the player wants the deal to happen but someone needs to buckle and to be fair to Southampton they are well within their right to demand what they feel is fair. We did the same with Jared.

For Southampton to blink It might need the player to hand in a transfer request. Maybe that's the hope our end.
Or we pay what they want. Ultimately if we truly believe the player is as good as we think he is then you take the risk and pay the money. If we don't believe he's worth that money why are we even wasting our time. Move on to the next target.

I know a few have already said it, but that interview with Martin talking to Lineker makes it sound as if he could be top top drawer.
Could well be Grealish mk2 and spend the extra rather than the short term outlay for Grealish himself.
We sign him as a £45m player and don't expect to ever need to make money on him so the 25% means nothing
Only problem with it is that it’s Russel Martin saying it tbh.

Haha good one.

You do not start off stupidly low.

Someone put an example of buying a house and us putting an offer in of 105k ish on a 200k house…. Or better yet a house which was worth 400k 6 months ago according to reports.

You gain absolutely nothing from putting in such a ridiculously low offer. Sales is all about win-win.

You annoy one party and they are always going to play hard ball unless they are in a desperate position.

There is only one party in a desperate position in this case and guess what it’s not Southampton.

Please do not try teaching me how to sell / negotiate.

Ridiculous offer and we gained absolutely 0 from it.
Dry those sheets lad. You're absolutely clueless.

I am only referring to the stupid bid we made in the first place, again according to reports.

Ridiculous tactic and typically Everton to low ball by so much. We should not be so far off their valuation and like the Grealish talks really had this conversation at the beginning.

You do realise that actual businesses and negotiators dont get upset by being low balled, right?

Its part and parcel of their job.

We made a bid of £35m, they reportedly wanted £40m. We bid £40m, then they reportedly wanted £45m. Then we bid £45m and they reportedly wanted £50m and 25% sell on fee.

What do you want the club to do? We bid what they asked for twice and they moved the goal posts three times (reportedly).

Its not evertons fault that Southampton are moving the goal posts to get the best deal possible. I bet that if we did accept the £50m and 25% sell on fee they'd just bump it up to £55m and a 30% sell on fee.

I think we've done all we can and should walk away and maybe come back to the table when Southampton want to stop taking the Michael.
