Think that's a oversimplified way of looking at it. Similar things were probably said about Jarrod Bowen when he went to West Ham

Yeah, it makes no sense. There's thousands of players over the years who have made a big money move to a top club, when the same top club could have gotten them much cheaper at an earlier time.

Some examples:

Dzeko to Wolfsburg for 4 million euros before City buying him 3 seasons later for 37 million euros

Suarez making transfers of 800k, 7.5 milion and 25 million before moving to Barca for 80 million.

There's thousands of other examples. And then you have things like Alex Ferguson watching Spurs and Leeds buy Carrick and Ferdinand respectively before deciding to make a move for them.

It also makes no sense because if we only judged and bought players based on the criteria that all the top clubs are after them, then we'd never get anybody through the door.

What can a fake £50 note buy you these days ?
What can a real fifty buy you?

I was at uni with a Greek lad who, being Greek, had a mistrust of banks. So he'd brought all of the money he was going to need for the duration of his degree over to England in crisp fifty pound notes, which he kept in his sock drawer like an absolute lunatic.

Needless to say, absolutely nowhere would take his 50s, so he eventually had to go crawling back to the high street banking industry with his insane wad of cash to get it changed - and answer some questions when the police got involved.

That's why I keep nothing bigger than 20s in my sock drawer. ;)

There will also be players the big clubs were interested in but bombed when bought by another club therefore dodging a bullet.

Clubs with money would rather get a 50m sure thing than take a 10m chance.

Folks at BBC reporting that noises from Everton are saints asking too much but those at Southampton think he’ll be on his way soon. Lots of posturing going on by the sounds.
Having landed Kiernan for £25 mill, if Soton are really asking north of £40 mill for Dibling they’re taking the p*** to an Olympic standard.

Beware of Greeks bearing fifties...

Like most people. Most have probably not even seen him play, or even knew too much about him, till we were linked and then the usual YT vids were put up. But when you heard things about him, from the so called experts, and old managers. It makes you hope we get the deal done (But hopefully not at the price we seem to be getting told)
