What is the difference between asking to leave and making a transfer request?

Am I being stupid or is not the same thing ?

A Transfer request is a formal written request that forces the club to make a formal response.

Their season starts on Saturday lunch time. If they do decide to sell, then surely it makes sense to do it now.

You can sign 2 or 3 good players to help win the championship with 40 odd million

Think if you submit an official transfer request, you forfeit stuff financially. Not sure of the ins and outs.

If he had a loyalty bonus in his contract, it would be void. I reckon it gives the club a financial incentive if the player is willing to forgo the payment.

No one does transfer requests because all it is does is give a club permission to deny you loyalty bonuses (and maybe wages in some cases? Not sure on that one).

Also the club can just say no. There's basically no point in giving one in.

….at one point it impacted the 10% a player would get. If I remember rightly, we insisted on Fellaini submitting a formal transfer request ahead of his deadline move to United as it saved us 10% of the fee.

I don’t think that’s the case anymore, but it formally shows the player wants to move (more importantly doesn’t want to stay). No club particularly manage players who don’t want to play for them so it’s usually the beginning of the end.

He's not such a risk as he's not a typical 19 year old footballer. Looks a big, strong lad, comfortable with the ball under pressure and confident. To be fair their academy produces some very good players. Everton is a very sensible next step for him.

With Barry, KDH, Aznou, Charly and now Dibling it looks like Moyes has had a change of mindset for his final years.....maybe at the request of his successor who I reckon has already been lined up with Moyes' blessing.
