Hmm, I stand to be corrected here Dave, but I don't think that's what he said. What's your source for those words? I've just googled the words you attributed to him and the only relevant search result is your post. Like i say though; happy to be corrected.

Having read bits of the interview myself just now he say's "confident we'll get quite a few in"

“I’m confident we will have quite a few new players in. The bedding in period that we alluded to last week is worrying me because time is shortening down, but I’m really positive that we’ll get quite a few new players in before the window shuts.”
He stated them post either west ham or united match.

Started off saying we needed plenty and then amended that to several.

Here it is mate (about 3.30 in).

"Several" is ambiguous. You originally had him saying "a couple" though Dave. He also says shortly after he says "several " that hopefully we'll see a "few things done this week."

It's just the vagaries of language and he's clearly speaking off the bat, so I have no doubrt that he's expecting more than a "couple" in.

Since you are very pedantic about exact words here:

Since several is mostly used to refer to 3-5(see source), Moyes has changed absolutely nothing about his stance and hes saying the same thing he did weeks ago. After Travers signing he said we need 4-6 players. A math wiz might notice this is only 1 more than "several". A transfer guru might have noticed we signed a player, Aznou.

If the math wiz and the transfer guru have a chat they will discover that if Moyes is being consistent from a month ago, we now need several signings, which is what he said.

Club have killed off any excitement and enthusiasm for the new season in typical Everton fashion. How can they be so stupid not getting the manager a fully functioning squad with just under 2 weeks to go!?

That’s it we don’t even get the chance to say “it’s the hope that kills you” as we don’t get any hope anymore or it lasts all of about a month.

Definitions...

Plenty = a large or sufficient amount or quantity; more than enough.

Several = more than two but not many.

He says plenty mate. Plenty is 'more than enough'. Several or a couple is way less than that...which is why he pivoted very quickly toward using that word.

Moyes is a company man at the end of the day.He might grumble a bit but he'll kow tow to the owner and CEO in the end. He just needs it 'out there' that he's been hard done to on transfers so he doesn't get any stick if this goes wrong.

It's just what he does: expectation limitation.
