All of that mate, there is a PR and optics peice here for both clubs.

I’d be amazed if we’ve been given permission to speak to the lad and been talking to Southampton for a week - that there is still a surprise in counter bidding 10 mill in valuation and 25% clauses.
Showboating at this point , before a final deal is struck , probably within 24 hrs , that would be my guess.

i have a feeling we dont really know what we're doing, and that they could see mcatee as viable for around 35mil

Doak looks like he wants to play first team football. Wolves and West Ham the other two interested. I'm sure he'd rather come here
Man City said they want 45 million for Mcatee

Everyone in the world now knows how desperate we are and how much money we have because we’ve been flailing around throwing daft bids in for this player, so everyone will simply tack £10m on top of their asking price for us.

I’d leave it. That’s now reached a huge burden of a fee for a kid who or may not be a superstar. He got homesick last time he left the south coast (not a criticism) and we aren’t exactly patient.

Either that or pay whatever they want 4 seconds before the deadline so they can’t reinvest.
To be fair when he went to chelsea he was 14…so no wonder got home sick

Yes but equally every club will now know if they push it too far we’ll walk away!

Until a united

Fair enough.

I did mean PL proven because obviously he's proven in the Bundesliga and sorry I just looked back and saw I did say "better players then wirtz" didnt I  so fair enough.

But basically my point was Liverpool has just paid £130m for a top young talent thats unproven in the PL. So us paying £40m+ isnt a crazy price for a highly rated 19 year old whos just had a decent season in the PL.

With the dibbling offer personally id walk away at this point. It feels like their just taking the mick with that sell on fee. If they want that then they can drop the price down.
I think we would do a deal without the sell on. Player wants it, club clearly happy to cash in. The problem will be if others are interested. In which case, we may be better just overpaying on our initial fee but not on future sales.

Ideally, the buyer would bid on several comparable players to create competition and see which one becomes the first to accepts their price 1st"
