I agree. Very glad to hear Moyes calling them out rather than telling us everything is on track when it's clearly not. We get told every window that everything is going well and to judge them at the end of the window. And every September I think our business has been average at best.

I am very sceptical about how this recruitment team will work. What is their track record to be hired by Everton? What are they going to bring to the club ?

So far it's disorganised and there's no plan. It's no different than previous years. Arguably you could say they are actually doing worse than the last few years because they have more budget to spend than Thelwell.
I don't think you can say there is no plan just because players don't want to come to us or clubs want an inflated transfer fee irrespective of our budget. I think its very unusual for any club even the elite ones that have it all to offer players to not have this same sort of shenagans every transfer season. The agents create the idea of chaos to generate interest and to max out offers for their players.
The plan from what I can see is, we need X, Y and Z type players and then you try and strike a deal with a shortlist of names. If the player doesn't want to come because they prefer the glamour of London or they want champions league or just because our club has been a shambles for 20 years......I don't think that can be blamed on the new team I charge and stating they haven't got a plan. This transformation will be a slow grind and we best all buckle in, time will tell but so many things need to improve for us to start getting top quality players willingly coming to us for the right fees.

Another who has outed himself as being totally clueless about football.
Sigurdsson? Really?

You genuinely could not have picked a more uninspiring footballer to hang your hat on. Not an awful player, but so vanilla it hurts

Technically sound but zero football IQ, seldom picked up intelligent positions on the pitch or offer himself as an option in the half spaces, so struggled to get anything out of his colleagues on the pitch as a result. Many times I watched him off the ball, just stood there in the full back position hoping for an easy out Also extremely scared of tackling, which is half of the game.

I remember him trying to pull rank to get James off a free kick once and I thought: bro, you're not fit to lace his boots

I don’t really understand why Moyes felt the need to comment publicly .
Such comments could have been made privately and carried equal weight.
Seems to have been an element of politicking and preemptive blame shifting.
The comments served Moyes rather than the club overall.

Maybe. But he calls out the state of the squad.

Moyes has nothing to gain that is different to the club overall. He knows it's not progressing anywhere near quick enough, pre season nearly over.

Personally opinion, the fee will be undisclosed.

Everton will leak to their people in the press the deal was £35m and add-ons.

Southampton will leak to their people it was £40m and add-ons and they got 25% sell on fee.

And the truth will be somewhere in the middle

I know next to nothing about this kid, but that's a big ask for what is mainly potential. The fee is probably about standard, but 25% of the sell-on takes a huge chunk out of any development we put in, and impacts our ability to replace him.

I guess it all depends now on how much we want him specifically. If Southampton don't absolutely fly out of the traps in the first 3-4 games before the deadline, their "we are happy to keep him to help us get back into the PL" line starts to look a bit shaky, and maybe they relent. Any other year I'd say call their bluff if we really want him, but this Summer needs to be a little bit more Supermarket Sweep for us, so let him fester on the South Coast and move on.

If the boot was on the other foot I would expect Everton to do the same to get the best deal for the club but this is way too expensive now and we should move on to other targets, assuming we have alternatives

He was annoyed we lost 3-0, had we won or drawn the game he wouldn’t have said anything

And then for years to come it will be discussed on internet forums with everyone cherrypicking whichever number best suits the argument they are trying to make.

If we’re selling him for over 50 mill in the future it’s because he’s absolutely lit up for us and is going for mega money to a top team. We wouldn’t care about the sell on fee by that point, we’d have probably even made it back in merit payments for league position/european football revenue.

Get it done because if we see this lad deciding matches for Spurs or Villa in the future and we’ve got Fellows or McNeil on the wing then no amount of ‘yeah but we saved x million’ will make anyone feel good about it.
