Your First, Last and Best Beer

first?
best - a pint of something in Mallorca. (also of note, Aspinalls cider at a wake a few years back, we'd finished the bar completely and it was all that was left, and it was stunning.)
favourite - unknown pilsner Munich.
worst - unfiltered, unpasteurised, rough as bum holes scrumpy somewhere in Cornwall. It was so thick and lumpy, and strong beyond words.

Was he drinking everyone's? It's only 3.4%
It is now, but back then it might have been stronger. Export is like 4.8%

Have you ever tried their Elephant? It needs to be icy cold, otherwise it's like syrup, but a cold one can be very refreshing. It's loopy juice, however - 7.2%

Haven't seen that stuff for years, didn't realise they still made it.

Special Brew is only 7.5% these days. Pointless.

First: I'm GenX, most of us were still in diapers when we had our first sip so I don't remember.

Last: Athletic Brewing 'Free Wave'.
N/A but the worst thing is it's an IPA but I wasn't paying attention when I got it. Apparently they have a blonde that I will try next. N/A beer has come A LONG way, nothing like it was 25 years ago.

Best: St. Bernardus ABT 12
Take it from me and we might scrap. If it wasn't so pricey here I'd still have probably bankrupted myself filling a fridge bought just for it.

First: bottle of Budweiser in a pub come nightclub at the age of 15, Barbie Girl blasting out the speakers, women in short skirts (I was at an all boys school), 20 Lambert & Butler in my pocket. Got absolutely trollied. God I miss 1997.

Last: bottle of Super Bock I picked up from Lidl. Really like it.

Best: probably a decently kept pint of Adnams Broadside. Terrible session beer, though.

Haha Broadside would make it a very short session 😄

First - Fosters on a night out during a school trip to Paris at 15, we were drinking by the pitcher and somehow I was the only one sobered up by the time we got back to our hotel and not hungover the next day

Last - Coors in a pub near Goodison for the Southampton game

Best - can’t remember the name of it but it was a local beer my brother in law found in a mini market near our Villa on the holiday I injured my knee two years ago, really smooth tasting with a slight fruity taste

Tbh I’m not much of a beer drinker these days, much prefer a fruit cider like a Kopparberg, Rekordling or Alska

lovely little detail.

First: Pabst Blue Ribbon at a sleepover at Dan's house in eighth grade. Dan was one of those kids you all know, the one who's parents (or in his case, dad) were never really around so their house became a locus for gatherings. We got hammered and my friend Keith threw up.

Best: Obviously situational for sure. Some of the best ones were otherwise average tasting lagers in excellent places with excellent company. A few off the top of my head are Coronas on South Beach Miami with a new GF who was super hot; drinking cans of Rainier (aka "vitamin R") in Alaska with my best friends as we stood around a campfire; sipping on warm Three Horses Beer Lager in southern Madagascar. Heck, even the Chang at Goodison was heavenly back when me and my partner would sneak one in during halftime when we were in Liverpool for 3 months.

Last: Bud Light as I type this.
