Confirmed Signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

It's an interesting signing.

Listen I have to check myself, that not every signing is purely upside plays. And that not every additional signing a veteran coming on the free.

Removed of those parameters I think theres a case KDH is a considered target to split the difference. At 25+5, in a vacuum, its fine value for present performance. I do think a have a bit of a worry of the sample. Him in the championship exceptional, him in conference league last year strong. Opportunities last year and or prior seasons with Leicester in the EPL not entirely noteworthy.

But the optimists in me can see a few ways this ends up great business. I think Moyes will love him, his workrate, just breaking up in the midfield, ball carrying, willing in supply or overlap. Has a lot of overlap with similar Moyes successes of a similar profile. I also think he his a player that just values collective competence of a whole 11, which makes me think he may help a lot of our prospects develop. If we split the difference of Chelsea and 23/24 Leicester production a 7/6 goal assists output in league more than rationalizes the fee.

IDK removed of him I am not a huge fan of the logic, but I do see how he specifically may help Moyes a lot, and the squad broadly. I also think he's very Everton in regards to his skills. I do think theres a path this is a big success.

How many PL starts do you think the lad has since 2023?

The last time he was a PL regular he went down behind the worst Everton team I’ve ever seen.
Why do people keep saying this, it’s such a rubbish way of putting players down!?

Pickford, Gana and Tarkowski are three of our best players and they all got relegated the season before we bought them

We nearly went down a couple of times, does that mean Branthwaite is awful?

Now you're being facetious

We're looking for a creative midfielder who can come in and play regularly with little fuss/minimal risk. KDH is in his prime and knows English football well.

Fits the bill and is a market reflective price imo

Not every player we sign can be a promising 21 year old from Lille, and nor should it
It maybe should though. We’d get a lot further that way.

Its really hard to assess his time at Chelsea, given they have abar a billion players on their books and he was competing with players who they paid twice or thrice his fee for.

Tarkowski is a bottom half player that we got on a free. We’re getting a similar level but paying 30m for the privilege.

He basically has to be Gana to make this work. Is that a good bet for 30m? We’re not suddenly financially well off enough to do deals like this.

I think it’s a good signing and I really liked him the handful of times I saw him play for Leicester. With that being said, I do wish this had been one of our domestic loans and not 25m from the budget, especially since Chelsea didn’t really want him anyway.

To be fair to the club, it sounds like they tried (trying?) for Luiz, who in my opinion is in a different category ability wise.

This is just really practical in a transfer market that has clearly been challenging. We are absolutely one of the thinnest teams in midfield, and this helps.
His value could more than double easily.

Wouldn't read into championship stats. If you did you would think the likes of Archer or Armstrong at Southampton are world beaters. Or players like Dwight Gayle when he played in it or Hirst at Ipswich.
That being said i do think Dewsberry Hall is better than those players mentioned
Did ok with a few championship players in the past though

I thought Americans liked statistics?

Tarkwoski was in the best starting XI for the top European leagues last season

KDH is not glamorous but is better than what we have and a very tidy player at this level. He will surprise his nay sayers I have no doubt.

What’s his best role in midfield? Haven’t followed him closely enough to figure out what he brings to the middle of the park, assuming that’s where he’d be playing

It’s poor value, and I guess I’m prepared to be wrong, but given his age and price he basically has to be Gana Gueye level from day one to work out and there just aren’t a ton of those out there.
Not sure about this statement tbh mate, he just needs to be better than what we’ve got now, and I think he is.
