Yeah but that’s not far off Kubo’s release clause. Yes someone made the reasonable point that a release clause needs to be paid fully upfront but realistically we could negotiate to spread the 52 million pounds (60 million euros) out like a normal contract given no one else appears to be interested in him and the fact they would be able to add the money to their books immediately for accounting purposes and hence use it to sign a replacement for Kubo.

Additionally, outside of the mega rich clubs, how often are releases clauses actually activated in the traditional sense whereby the full amount is paid in one go. Me thinks very rarely. I imagine that this kind of deal gets done frequently.

How can you realise they don’t want to join without putting in time to sound out players/clubs/agents though?

If we don’t explore these deals we’re unambitious, if we cave to the seller’s demands we’re overpaying and if we negotiate we’re wasting time. Almost as if some people are gonna moan regardless.

For 45m I’d expect a player further along in thier development.
