When Archie Gray went to Spurs for £40mil having played RB for Leeds that season, i was disappointed.

Could have been our long term RB (or CM).

Dibling is a RW so typically of a higher value.

£45mil...just get it done.

£40m including bonus is very generous. The kid plays at Soton and scored 2 goals so far. Potential can go either way. We have to be careful regarding paying fees.

What I don't get: if we really offered 35m+8min add ons and they want 45m we offer 40m+5m and get it done.. it is more about the structure than a huge gap. Hopefully some tactics on our side and we get it done tomorrow

We don’t really have a choice do we, seeing as we’ve left it so late like total amateurs. We will obviously cave to their asking price, which is far too much.

It’s telling that no other club wants to go anywhere near it at that price.

I mean, who’s going to pay more than what we’re offering after a year in the Championship, next year he’ll have one year left on his deal. I can’t see him signing another if they’re pricing him out of a move.

Read this on a Southampton forum, and I think he's probably got a point on other interest;

We do need to sell Dibling this summer though, because he isn't signing a new contract and his value will drop off a cliff next summer. So it may not be to Everton, and it may not be for £40m, but he is going to go - the only question now is to whom and for how much. I think we've obviously just had a sniff from someone else, which is why we're feeling confident enough to reject Everton's £40m. We know there's a better offer coming.
