Not with his batting, scored 64 in six innings, and 38 of those came in one knock.
Even if he made 15 or 20 across 2 innings, that would be big in a close match like this. Brook could have also continued to bat normally for longer in his first innings.

But they definitely missed his bowling in the third innings. I think he'd have bowled alright on this wicket.

I Don't know anything about Overton, but Smith, Atkinson and Dawson are all sound batters and Woakes can defend one end, with painkillers if needed.
Dawson won't bat he was just sub for Woakes, it will be Touge who will be a number 11, might be able to stick around for another batter but don't count on runs, Atkinson isn't bad and I think Overton bats higher up at county level so should be able to get himself double digits at least but it will depend on the ball love movment and how he handles the pressure.

….after the Root dismissal, I think England were stuck and stopped scoring. I’d hope going off for rain has helped them regroup, pointless playing to survive, the scoreboard needs to tick over.

I work on partnerships in this scenario & Smith/Overton first task is to reduce the deficit to <20. Smith is key, he can hit boundaries and relieve pressure, if India dismiss him early, they’re back in the driving seat.

The what pardon me?
