Is a football leadership team better than a DOF?

Having spent 35 years in business any structure can work if the people in it make it work. Similarly any structure can fail if the people in it make it fail. The more people that are involved the more of a multiplier you get if it works but you also multiply the chances that it fails. A single person model is 50/50 succeed or fail but it is easier to address if it does. If you held my feet to a fire and made me choose I’d go DoF but I really do not think the structure is what matters, it is the people.
 

We have a CEO doing a club interview saying we're well on track, and hours later Moyes lamenting how he wanted players in by now laughing with an audience at the absurdity of how many we still need to bring in, and days later admitting we've failed so far and now desperate.

As another poster said on here not so long ago, the arse covering and finger pointing has seemingly started.

Short term, I think we'd have been in a much better position if we retained Thelwell/Purdy. To me, circumstances dictated we needed some evolution before revolution - especially when the leaders of that change were wanting to stay at their last job until the season concluded.

Long term, who knows? I shared the below in April;

For the past couple of years, I've shared my view that this summer - a summer under new owners at Bramley Moore, will be our most important in Premier League era.

An opportunity for a rebuild, and lightning bolt through the club.

But I'm struggling to understand who will be responsible for that recruitment.

As in, ultimately responsible.

Is it TFG centralised structure/wider hierarchy?

Or is it localised?

Is it Moyes?

Why is a CEO, bringing in a transfer consultant with him from Leeds? The very fact press are reporting it's not a direct replacement for Thelwell says a lot.

So far, I'm thinking it's my own lack of understanding, but it would be nice to have a clearer picture soon on who is making the decisions on which footballers are coming in.

... and I've still no clue.

Only time will tell, but to me - we've already failed at bringing in the bare minimum of who we need for any any adequate pre-season preperation.

I'll be surprised if we start vs Leeds with a single new signing - if that happens, it'll be a tremendous recruitment failing.
 
Just look at what having a DOF did to us when we had money = there's your answer a benefactor of an accountant thought it would be a good idea ....Why , because he & his chairman knew nothing about the right players for our club - IMO your manager should do - no need for them IMO ....
 

Not really happy the way it has gone so far even if do bring in the numbers and quality we want and need. Becuase has taken far to long esp in key areas like we have no options at a natural rw. I am more positive in the long term it can work

Long term, the CEO, and football leadership team will be the ones to pick a manager. Moyes at the end of the day is a stop gap decision that was made in an emergency situation. Mutual parting by the end of the next season, and they will hire a head coach figure rather than a manager.

Recruitment for the beginning of the new season has failed.

The priority RHS issue that has plauged the team in recent years has not been addressed in the slightest.

Things looked promising at the start of July with an offer for a starting RB Tete, but the deal was not sealed.

No back up plan was immediately introduced.

Starting RW similarly should be in place by now.

Underwhelmed, lessons not learned and no accountability for those involved.

"We tried" is not good enough in improving standards, it's results that matter.

"Actions not words".

To some extent it might be healthy for the manager to put pressure on and challenge the directors, I hope that’s what it is anyway.

We have had happy yet failing squads and staff for years.

I heard John Giles in an interview saying you don’t have to like or be friends with your teammates and your manager. Not saying they should dislike each other but you can be too happy and comfortable.

Everyone should be competing with each other and challenging each other, the old Moyes that I remember didn’t do enough of this type of thing.

Let’s see how it plays out I suppose.
