Favourite school assembly songs

Abide with me.
Our religion teacher loved it. But fair play to him, I do too, superb hym or whatever it's classed as.
It's been a long time, but for similar reasons I've belted this out whenever we've had the pleasure to go to Wembley, and I'll do it next time Everton get there.

From school, I remember 'Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah' and 'The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, Has Ended' pretty fondly.

Ok,this is going to stick in your heads. Not me but my older brother told me this. Back in the late 60s, they had to sing The Lords Prayer at the end of his assembly. I didnt know the signifigance of the said tune till quite a few years later, and dont know why it was used, but its so good😀.

The tune -Z CARS.

True story 👍

Jehovah. Was he on loan at Boro last season

Nothing like a bit of god rock at 9am to prepare you for the working world. I do remember finding some of my fellow infant students slightly disturbing, singing so loudly, so enthusiastically with their heads held back and almost clenched fists to a good old fight the good fight.

Then they had the check to make you sit down on a freezing cold floor, cross your knees and clap.

We didn't have to sing in school in the morning, but instead every single day before the first class began we had to stand up, look at this speaker up in the corner of the classroom and recite the pledge of allegiance to the flag, with our hand over our heart while the principal recited it over the PA system.

Pretty weird now that I think about it.
