I think this was a lazy rumour because Villa have probably blown their chance of affording him after shelling out for expensive loans in Jan and missing out on CL footy and, despite league position, we're seen as Villa-adjacent, still. Even halving his wage would be too much outlay for us IMO.

With that said, I really, really like him as a player and would kill to get him in on a sensible deal.

7 games (almost 20% of the PL season) is a lot to lose Ndiaye to AFCON. We need options other than McNeil. Grealish would fit the bill.

Charlie Adam would also have to work overtime working out what to do with the number of free kicks he would give us.

There would be an instant campaign/agenda against him going down too easy the moment he signed for us, so he'd get booked for diving instead of being awarded a free kick.

Yep, he slows everything down. With the best will in the world, we aren’t gonna be a team that dominate the ball, so we need pace as we’ll often be playing on the counter.
