2024/25 Nathan Patterson

….i hope the last thing on Moyes’ mind is playing a poor full back at RM, especially one who isn’t particularly good in possession, shows no quality to go past opposition players, get in opposition box or is effective in the top third.

RM/wingers will often convert to FB if they’re just short of top quality but I’d not be considering a FB who’s short on quality to play further forward.

Thankfully Moyes knows.
I’ve seen very little in Patterson to suggest to me he’s a premier league winger , I mean basically nothing

Let's see who Moyes agrees with...

A know it all who thinks his opinion is fact or me.

Not sure why you’d ever be frustrated why Young started over Patterson, it’s blatantly obvious one is a top professional who’s had a great career and the other has looked very very average and that’s being kind. Could see the first few games he was lacking but was only young but still miles off it terrible signing tbh but the kind we should be taking a chance on but was plain to see he wasn’t up to it, then the whole Patterson chat went silly and people wanted him to do well just to say see I reckon some will still say give him a chance but deep down know he’s poo

It was in these periods when Young had a few games of bad spell that we didn't try out something else, I'm not talking about last autumn, where he was probably a top 3 player (in a bad squad). More like 23/24.

I actually think these are some of the few qualities he has indicated he might possess.

Hard to tell when we haven't seen him I) ever play in a progressive side who have had the scope to take risks (not his fault); or II) ever put together a string of appearances without getting injured (possibly his fault)

What's done is done, sadly, and he's wasted three of the most important years in his development lifecycle. I'm not sure there's a way back for him, but I will stand up for his attacking qualities
