This is possibly now the most interesting point of all. How will the women’s game develop? On these forums there seems to be a genuine contempt for how the men’s game has developed since 1992 ( a view I share). The men’s game is polarised into the few mega rich and many league and non league clubs barely surviving hand to mouth. Yet already the structure of the women’s game in this country mimics the men’s. An elite division and an almost elite division. From this season (?) no relegation from one to the other to enable those top clubs to bolster financially (albeit a temporary arrangement).
The sponsors, broadcasters and leeches are in, the top players will make money off the back of the rest of the game and the rest will struggle along.
I see the new Football Regulator becoming involved in the future, and not in any useful, sustainable way.
Helluva post mate, lots to think about.
I agree with you, I wouldn’t want the women’s game ending up like the men’s but money corrupts everything so I don’t see how it doesn’t go that way, sadly.
They should let women run their game, instead of copying the format of the men’s, I’m sure they would do a better job.
I’m just happy they have been successful and really hope it encourages more and more girls to get into playing the game and doing well, considering it a potential future career if they are good enough, just as young lads do.
There is still a divide, even in schools - my daughter has just left primary and loves playing, played for them every other year, but her school, for whatever reason, disnt have a yr6 team even though they had enough willing players to make a team?! The yr6 boys were getting bussed all over the place to represent the school….
Looking forward to catching some games at Goodison next season - I really enjoyed going to WHP and watching the ladies with the kids, it is always a very friendly inclusive vibe, the crowd are brilliant and also the away fans, and I hope they can enhance all that at Goodison.
