2024/25 David Moyes

That is so true. It shows just how important Branthwaite is. But it also shows vulnerabilities, too. Tarkowski is still solid but it won’t be too long we have to start thinking about his replacement. Not yet. Just that his injury last season was something that could rear its ugly head again.

I know. But it never seems to work out well for clubs.
It depends on the circumstances mate. I think I said a couple of weeks ago that if I was the owner, having shelled out as much as they have, I would have wanted the USA tour to be a showcase, pulling media connections and agents to get us plenty of coverage over there and insist on a good showing. Obviously that's not happening, and what's occurring over there may be perceived as detrimental to the group's public perception, never mind just Everton's. Depending on the brief that the Friedkin's had issued to the Everton element, I don't think it would be a shock if a head or two rolled as a consequence of turning up without a squad and faring poorly, if that's the case. Someone made a decision to let Thelwell go and make a transition on that front, knowing all staff wouldn't be in place until September. Even Moyes, lacking central defenders, supposedly chose an aging Keane rather than what had been lined up. Was that a hill to die on for him career-wise ? He may not look blameless here. Who knows, but they probably won't tolerate a circus on their own turf.

What, or rather who 'had been lined-up' in place of Keane?
Is there not a level of culpability for the apparent inactivity on the market on the Board who decided to dump Thelwell and appoint a group of individuals all under contractual obligation not to operate until a certain date?

Yeah mate, most likely. But possibly everyone they've appointed too...

About 3 games into the preseason and Moyes is already reverting to his "knife to a gun fight" stance.

I was hoping it was Kenwright that was responsible for spreading such attitudes around the club. Apparently not ...

Moyes is in no danger whatsoever , in my opinion

No he isn't. He is in an impossible situation. The club has quite rightly let the out of contract wasters leave. However , for whatever reason , have not been able to recruit either enough quantity , or quality , replacements. Just look at our bench last night. Keepers and kids. What do you expect Moyes to do , other than , as he has , point out the state of the squad. It would be better in my view , not to try to twist the facts to suit your narrative.

We will live or die by the Branthwaite. Hopefully he has a healthy season and his current injury is a nothing burger.

Tbh we were doing fine in the bournemouth game until the diabolical individual errors. I thought the formation worked well first half. We were a lot less rigid. Whats a concern is 3 games in and we've only scored 1 goal. And that was a pen.
Im gona write off the second half as already shown in this mini tournament we cant roll on subs like the other sides. Christ knows what state we'll be in by the united game. Probably have to throw baines on.
Im not sure going over to America to participate in this tourney is doing us any favours. We havent the squad to compete and judging by last night we're hardly grabbing any new fans.
Big couple of weeks in recruitment.

Come on mate. He's clearly not. We desperately need players. We should not have kept the players we let go - they were terrible. We really do need players and Moyes is calling on the board to get them. He was also talking up aiming to get into Europe during his Men In Blazers thing.
