Transfer Rumour Malick Fofana

Big difference between yesterday's "nearing an agreement" and today's "sounding out interest".

I don't really think it's actually that hard. The selling club will have their valuation, but you don't bid blind, without any indication from the player. You don't trust anyone. How many days of "sounding out interest" do you give? Not many would be my answer.

Would that be classed as a kind of tapping up though ? Though again that is exactly what I would do and most other clubs, can't see the point of mulling, pondering etc and putting in a public bid when you could be laughed out of court when the player says no publicly.

I honk tapping up is dead to be honest mate, well not legally dead, but it just seems to never get punished now. Pretty much every deal you’ll read online now will say “player terms agreed, club terms to follow” which is just flat out tapping up isn’t it.

Like this is just illegal:

Does a bid submitted not at least suggest that the player is open to the move? otherwise what is the point in even bidding?

I believe Bobble when he says that the first bid was submitted & rejected..
Would think that if the clubs had been talking and it did go to the point of us putting a bid in. That lyon look to be open to selling him so, would think that they would let his agents talk to us to see if fofana would be interested and what we could offer money, plans for him here ect. Dont think is an easy deal to do but is prob 60/40 to convincing him. This bayern link to diaz might make him think the rs come in for him,

On the face of it, it all sounds completely normal and I’m not entirely sure what it is that people are losing their minds over. From what’s been reported I’d guess we’ve been in touch with his agent who’s said ‘I’ll level with you, we’ve got some bigger fish sniffing round but there’s nothing concrete so we’re not ruling it out’ and we’ve got to a point where we’ve decided to give him a decision to make, put a bid on the table and say are you coming or not, we’re not hanging around another month while you see what else comes up. Quite why people are acting like this is unheard of in the history of football or just negotiation in general I really have no idea.

Depends on the fan of course. But do you think Everton thought it was likely after he turned down Forest for UCL football 4 weeks ago?
I mean I’d let things play out , unless there has been a statement released saying he’s not interested.

I try not to get ridiculously excited about links or apoplectic about stories saying they don’t fancy coming Everton . Feels like a sure way to get unnecessarily wound up and as blues we’ve enough to get fed up with without inventing more .

You'd think that or something like that, but then you'd think why after having a bid agreed with Nottingham Forest did Fofana just blow them away so publicly.

Honestly i dont kno could easily be over imo i think is prob room to convince him to come. But would have to offer more money to the player or something, does seem like is more his agent trying to get his name about to see if other clubs in a better place than us bid. Prob still alot of work to do, doesnt really look to far on the clubs agreeing a price

Yeh and that’s fine, but we should be signing players that think “yeh play well for these and I get my big move” not “oh well, guess I can just go to these for a year if CL clubs don’t want me now”. Different mentality altogether.
All depends on the individuals mindset, pretty sure Richy didn't view us as a long term move as he always had that desire to step up as well, and if we'd not been entirely dirge all his time he likely would have stayed
