2024/25 David Moyes

He's extremely frustrated there. But good to see he's not trying to play down the problems. Even when the questions tried to get him to be positive, he wasn't having it.
I'm not his biggest fan - even if I recognise his deep competence as a manager - but that interview gets the likes of me well onside. Moyes is frustrated because he knows recruitment is way off where it should be by now. There may be good reasons for that, but that's not his concern. His concern is to get the most out of a squad - and he hasn't even got that at the minute. Fingers out, Yanks.

"Nice football in the first half", "the fans are great, a big turnout..."

All waffle. Moyes, to his credit, is quietly stewing. "Let's be fair, it wasn't just because we had a few missing through injury..."

I realise that the market is tough for what has become a distressed brand in Everton. But nobody should be making any excuses for these Americans and their appointees. It's their job to sort it out. Up to now, people should be, at the very least, deeply skeptical.
@davek said it perfectly several times: Everybody ought to be, as you say, deeply skeptical of these new owners and shouldn't fall for their 'huge ambition' spiel without seeing any actual results.

Moyes has always been a no bs type of guy but I feel he pushed the company line more in the past. Does anyone else think he's much more open and willing to say what he really thinks this time around?
Yup, definitely. He knows the game - these owners will shaft him when the time comes. I don't think he's disrespectful or antagonistic, just realistic now. He'll be gone when the time comes. He might as well put it up to them while he's here. Nothing to lose. He's entitled to demand better.

I understand completely why he is sounding so exasperated. It wasn't just with the state of the squad and recruitment either. He said we made 2 terrible errors and was fuming about it

Yes, I meant before we got replacements but we're finding now that we can't get replacements, not yet anyway.
But I don't think we were in a position to ask them to stay until, say, August 7, when we'll replace you.

I'm sure this will be sorted, it's just that this temporary "gap" in the squad size is taking a little longer than surely anybody would have wanted or even expected.

"Well let's be fair it's not just players missing, we need to sign a lot of players and we're all aware of that. I think the supporters are hugely aware of it as well. That we're needing to bring in a bunch of new players in as well. I wish we could have had them earlier because it would have helped us now, helped us you know prepare them for the team"

That's pretty damning.

Moyes is seething in that interview but knows can’t blow his top in public.

No way behind the scenes he isn’t demanding players asap and is f’cking furious.

That bench was awful today as well.

If anyone believes after that interview its Moyes fault for dithering as to why we have signed hardly anyone then your a fool! This one is 100% on TFG and this new recruitment team

But if we make a slow start to the season it will be Moyes who pays the price with his job.

TFG are very keen on sacking managers.
