Transfer Rumour Malick Fofana

It still annoys me that we always seem to pay double what these young players get picked up for a relatively short time prior to our interest.

On 10 January 2024, Fofana joined Ligue 1 side Lyon for a fee of €17 million, plus €5 million in add-ons, and a 20% sell-on clause on a future sale in favor of Gent

Cue the usual suspects telling im wrong and this is actually what we should be doing, ie letting other clubs find the bargains etc…..
Well Lyon also have about 500m in debt from overspending on transfers and wages and almost got relegated as a penalty for it, so for every bargain they make a profit on, they also have a lot of whiffs. It is a very hard thing to - just buying bargain talent. You really think we're in a position to make those risks that Lyon have?

He either wanna leave or he don't. Kubo sounded open to a move, but I don't think he wanted to force the issue. You just have to wonder how much these lads keep up with footy outside of the big clubs.

On one hand you look at the table and think Forest or whoever have better leverage. But realistically we are probably the better destination if we get our targets in because of our backline. We fix the goalscoring and we have a massive advantage over the likes of Forest.

Thing is (imho) he’s still a risk for the EPL.
Looks a great talent and of course should we get him i’ll be desperate for him to be a success, but at his age and coming from the French league it’s not a guarantee of success at the rumoured price.

Hopefully the new recruitment team and especially this analytics company earn their corn and he’s a great fit and value continues to double every 18m.

It’s a tough one really as on one hand you buy him from Genk but he not quite good enough to get enough game time to improve but on the other hand he now worth double what they paid. Equally you need a good solid squad before you buy him from Genk or Onana from the club before we got him
It's always a tough one like Ekitike think eintracht paid 17 million euros 12 months ago and selling at nearly 80 million ,if we got fofana for 38 million the ceiling is still high if he had a good season for us
