Flying to the UK in September and I have a seven hour layover in Bangkok airport. Was planning on heading out to a weed cafe to kill some time and relax before the flight but I just read they’ve changed the law and made it illegal again. Has anybody had any recent experience of Thailand?
It's still available. Every other shop sells weed these days.

Very far from the Russian tourists...

Personally, I avoid it. I prefer Krabi if I want a cheap beach getaway or Samui if I want to spend.

Phuket = Old big time scammers from UK who married Thai's to hide behind Thai laws.

Also the Russians

Pattaya = Old small time scammers from UK who are on retirement visas and sit around drunk all day.

Also the Indians.

Two beautiful locations full of disgusting people.

You've nailed it there, Zat. Pattaya has absolutely everything you need except the people.

Just done 2 nights in Dubai. Wow. (Heat and expense)...

Now led round a pool in Bali. The missus reckons there's a few bogans round here. I've never heard of the term, and she won't tell me what it means either.

Much prefer the prices here! Ha ha. I paid £15 for a Corona in a Dubai beach bar

….i think drinking in Dubai is knowing where and when to go. My son worked out there for a few years and knew the best bars and the best times to go when discount was on, the ‘brunches’ were also decent, paying a fixed amount and drinking all you want.

Still expensive, just less expensive.

Me and my mate are booking flights this weekend to Porto for mid September.

Anyone recommend any things to do? Places to eat/drink? Maybe even accom?
We stayed in an air bnb a bit out of town, but on the tramline, which only took 10 minutes into town, there are lots of suburbs with cool bars and restaurants all along the way.

Eating near the opera house or right on the water will cost double, as you would probably expect.

On the South side of Douro bridge is a bit of a hill overlooking the river, always seems to be full of backpackers and young locals having a beer and watching the afternoon fade away to sunset (locals sell you beer and food from eskies which is pretty cool)

There is always someone playing live music too, it's a really good vibe, and lots of bars & cafes on the main drag next to it if you need to get out the sun for a bit.

Would also recommend doing one of the free walking tours so you can at least see the sights while you are there (expected tip is about €20 per person, but still great value)

Bogan is an aussie term. You will recognise them by their bintang singlets, horrible tattoos, fake Oakley sunnies, mullet and the general rudeness they display while getting drunk at 10am. They apparently get bonus points if they sit at the pool bar drinking for 8 hours without once leaving their seat to pee.

Other than that, we're a great bunch of blokes 😎

Cheers mate all good stuff here, perfect.

Me and the wife are going early Nov. Update on what you reckon is decent Nymz.

Yeah I stayed on the palm. It was cheaper around the Burj, and longer happy hours. I paid £7 for a pint there.

We spent near £600 in 2 nights between us and I didn't drink all that much.

I'd go back though, just do it cheaper next time. Like eat in the mall etc

Yeah, unfortunately they are "fashionable" again over here.

Good thing is most Aussies in Bali are from Perth and no one here cares about rugby, so at least you won't have them throwing things at you if the lions win 👍

Will do kid. Feel like @JimmyJeffers will have surely been?

Is a lot cooler than Lisbon, temperature wise, but should still be nice in Sept. I’d do a boat tour up the Douro. They rave about a local meal called Francesinha which is just a pile of bread with meats and an egg on top. Just a stodgy mess.

Can’t remember any good restaurants off the top of my head but there are plenty. There was a bar called Bar With Pool Table which showed sport on a stinking tele and had a pool table and was like a dirty barn. Recommended

Got rubbered on the port cellar tours which are interesting if you’re into it but a lot of people do them just cos it’s the done thing so I wouldn’t bother if you’re not into port or the process of making it.

Church of St Francis is worth a look around. Mainly for the mad skull and bones room.
