New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

Nah, I think there's more to it than that.

Sponsorship has to be appropriate in terms of the nature of the business your partner is and in terms of brand recognition.

Shirt sponsors are even more visible than stadium branding, but I’m struggling to pick out the ones from this list which are an appropriate business genre with huge brand recognition.

Chang was/is very visible in East Asia. As was Kejian. NEC at the time was a tech "giant". Ultimately though, who cares ?

They're not huge and globally recognised brands, however, such as Emirates and Allianz: signing a deal with one of those is the exception, not the norm.

For all the huffs and puffs by a few predictable posters, it's money in our pocket that we haven't had before, that'll only further help build the squad.

This is it, we are advertising them, not the other way around.
I’ve never chosen to engage with a brand based on what they advertise in my life (boycotted a few on that basis!)

True. I'd like to think post-Stake that TFG can source something more recognisable and possibly more lucrative.

I'm confident they will, although again we need to have measured expectations. Whilst TFG are more organised with greater ties to certain brands...

... they aren't miracle workers. Unless you're owned by a state who can organise dubious deals, to get a top sponsor requires a brand and exposure.

Brand and exposure come from being successful both domestically and on the European scene, although success doesn't have to mean winning.

You need to be on the TV regularly in front of bigger audiences; you need to have players in your squad who bring exposure through media and brands.

That's what TFG need to be aiming for, and to do that you need to sort out what's happening on the pitch first and foremost.

Spidercams aren't installed permanently in stadiums, broadcasters install them on a match by match basis if they want to use them.
I used to think that they must require an even roof around the ground - like we have now at BMD - but I went to an England game at St James Park, and they’d managed to get one in there with their totally lopsided roof.

I imagine all we need are mounting points in the roof and somewhere to put the massive box that sits pitch side.

I think people knew it was going to be the vibrant or more emotional end, and if they didn't, well their head has been in the sand.

For me, the change between South Lower and Upper may take some time, because the Lower Gwladys has been, in the mainstay, standing for years.

But, not all could go in the new lower (I couldn't take my son) or may want the option to sit at some point, so they've gone with the upper.

It's here where I think there'll be a potential mismatch, because there'll be those who expect/want to stand and those who will be expecting to sit.
I don't think fans will be standing in South upper as it is steep, and fans who wanted to stand had the opportunity to go in the lower

Yes, good think that a brand new stadium would be able to accommodate the technology and hopefully the broadcasters will want to use it for some of the bigger games there, hopefully against Brighton.

It's slightly different wouldn't you say?

I get the logic, yet I do not think it's as black and white as that. For example, I couldn't take my son in the lower example simply because of age and cost.

But that's not a common issue, admittedly. Some of the fans are us, who stand all game, have chosen the upper as they like to sit down before and at HT.

This was quite common in the Upper Gwladys, for example, so I think a lot of fans may have chosen the upper hoping it'd be an in between.

For example, there was a closer comparison between the Lower Street End and Upper Street End, than the Upper and the Bullens so to speak.

I agree.

Shirt sponsorship is far more intimate and noticeable a connection. It’s persistently visually associated with the club both for the duration of the deal and historically looking backwards.

I’m already thinking of Hill Dickinson as a place rather than a company. I think its obscurity makes it seem less like a sponsor name.

I like the deal. Prefer being sponsored by a reputable local firm with roots in the city’s maritime history. Preferable to some vacuous global corporate. I even like the name.

As for exposure, the stadium doesn’t disappear because you don’t like the name. People dont search for anything football related via a list of FTSE / NASDAQ companies

It's a cumbersome name to use; it's nowhere near the size 'brand' partners we should be associating with; their logos are now DOMINATING a brand new £700M stadium - one win which we ourselves have not established our identity in yet.

If there was a text book written about how to bollocks up a naming rights deal then Everton have written it for all other clubs in similar situations.

The decision making on this is utterly alarming, btw. That we have club governors who see this as A/ a fitting partnership and B/ aesthetically acceptable makes me fear the worst about them.
