Don't forget to factor in pre season injury to one of our key players

Extremely hot take here - 'getting off to a good start' is overrated (or, at the very least, overvalued).
The bulk of our points in most seasons in the modern era have been won in the second half of the season and will continue to be for the foreseeable. It's still very easy to shoot right up the table in late winter/early spring, even into European contention.
With the extreme benefit of hindsight, we've had very little to worry about over 'bad starts' to a season as we, inevitably, improve anyway..
The extra context here is this - would you insist that we (panic?) buy all kinds of players 'early' who'll be 'ready' to play the first handful of games of the season.. or would you prefer we worked at a pace that ensured we secured our preferred long-term targets regardless of them being 'ready' to play before window officially shuts? I know what I'd choose..Yeah that is a weird take. Every game counts the same, and I’d rather not be in the relegation mix in January for like the 5th season in a row.

Also - how does not having all of our business done before mid-August automatically mean that we'd be in the 'relegation mix in January'??
But how much has that really mattered in the grand scheme of things? We haven't won a game in August since 2021 that's why some of us are not calm about the lack of strengthening of the squad, so far.
Again - really hasn't mattered too much ultimately, has it? not enough to be really concerned over at any rate...In what world can having a good start to the season be overvalued…
Our best seasons in the last 20 years are when we have amassed over 10 points in the first 6 games.
In recent years we have been on less than 1 point per game for those first 6 games and guess what… relegation battles, and thankfully not last season because of Moyes dragging us out.
A strong start breeds confidence and typically means we are looking forward and not over our shoulders.
God forbid that anyone would like us to get business early that we were ready for the opened against Leeds.
A better start and we would have avoided relegation fights comes March, April and May. So I'd say it's been quite a big issue. But how much has that really mattered in the grand scheme of things?
Well yes it has… when we have had a strong start we have competed for European places.Again - really hasn't mattered too much ultimately, has it? not enough to be really concerned over at any rate...
