Away game ticket sales

Or the other one before that where they would select a number from 0 to 9 for the derby and united away and if the last digit on your season ticket serial number matched you got one.
I got my tickets for the 2 nil at Anfield when Kanchelskis scored 2 this way. I was only 11 or 12. My older brother and uncle didn't get one I'm surprised they let me go but they ended up in the Main Stand with the RS.

Yer basically a lottery, you could have been up and down the country all season then get screwed for a derby ticket.

The only fume I can remember was 08/09, and they introduced the auto cup Away scheme and we drew Macclesfield Town.

The amount of half and half scarves in the away end was insane. You could just get a ticket with zero credits, getting tickets. Same for the Final, when we weren't all guaranteed.

Regarding the fairness of the system, I think the current way is probably the fairest even though it's open to abuse a little bit.

One other way they could do it is if they reserved say 10 or 15% of the allocation for a ballot for members each game. But the problem with that is the current STH who are lower down the ladder of the existing system would lose out (unless they were also allowed in the ballot and were lucky enough to get a ticket).

I don't think there is any way the club could do it that would keep everyone happy and have people not calling it unfair.

I got one with my share for the Macc game, ended up sitting in the stand with the families of some of the players..

We got the train to that, there was a bit of trouble with City back in Manchester City Centre, they had just been knocked out at home by I think Forest.

I dislike the current system because I regularly see a LOT of people selling spare tickets for games they simply don't want to go - those credit banking Tuesday nights? You'll see hundreds being sold a few minutes after they've been bought from the club. Then there's the moaning on social media about new faces not showing up. It's a bit crap.

Not sure what shake up would be ideal - I'm not sold on the system some clubs use where you buy a level of loyalty and then you're still balloted. I'd just like to get away tickets.

Most credits I've got in recent years is 4

The problem you have is the club aren't going to just start again from scratch and swerve people who haven't missed a game for decades are they? I think you over estimate the amount of spares that are sold on but it does happen. 9 of us do actually go to them all so I wouldn't be against a portion of the allocation having to be collected at the venue with ID, that would root out a few who are selling them on but it would be a pain in the arse for the club and I don't think they would be bothered doing it. When we were last in Europe in Krasnodar and Kiev you had to collect the tickets over there in person to get the credit so it has happened before.

This comes at a cost to the club too, which they won't do for domestic games

I think there will be a shake up in the next few years, though. We are customers, there is more money to be extracted from away fans.

The club don't really make any money from away games though do they, the tickets are capped at £30, they just sell them and that's it.

Yeah but there are ways and means - like a loyalty membership, ballot fees etc

Think Forest was the last example I heard of. You pay say another 50 quid on top of your ST for a loyalty band (Gold, Silver, Bronze), just to have a chance of getting a ticket. Whatever band you buy equals whatever chance you have in a ballot

No chance that is ever happening here imo. Imagine them trying to go to the 2000 fans with full credits 'listen, your loyalty over decades is being wiped out and we're going to put you into a ballot with everyone else, and by the way you have to pay £50 for the privilege', a bit of a hard sell for the club that one

The system doesn’t really work. I go to all the home cup games and I’ve got a ST. The only way I’ve managed to get to an away game recently is by buying a spare. So I don’t get a credit for going but the person selling it to me does. The answer eventually will be a system that tickets are linked to individuals and can’t be passed on.
