ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Don't know how accurate but this shows that Liverpool are one of the biggest spenders in Europe since the 60s.

(Let's ignore how long Everton were there, that's a different thread)

This post didn’t get the attention it deserves.

All this garbage about how they’ve always done things the right way, the lib pool way lad, built their success properly unlike de oil clubs.

They brought their success just like City and Chelsea did. Brought their way out of the Second Division. Then spent their way to all the Leagues and European Cups they won and on the back of that attracted a lot of new supporters throughout the world.

They was no different from today’s ‘Oil Clubs’ in the 60s-80s.

They then went on a decline and in that time City and Chelsea where taken over by wealthy owners (ala Littlewoods with them) and as a result started to buy the best players and manager and win titles.

Liverpool weren’t at the races at this point and their fans and chums in the media hated it, so they christened those two the oil clubs and sports washers etc.

The PL didn’t like it either so now we have this PSR bullshit to basically stop clubs from doing what Socislist FC did in the 70s and buy their way into the elite and to protect the redmen from any nasty little upstarts.

The ‘we grew our way up to where we are organically so we can spend what we want on Wirtz’ etc is the biggest load of bullshit in the sport.

They spent like a drunken a sailor to get there, something other clubs such as ourselves can’t do anymore through PSR restrictions.

100% correct. Not only did they spend heavily (relative to the time) to drive their success in the 70s and 80s, they also, incredibly, managed to outspend Ferguson's United from 1992 to 2013 - a period coinciding with their famous title drought and United's dominance. Their gross spending and net spending was higher than that huge corporate behemoth down the road...

That's the wee socialist community football club that the media adore.

God love them, so glad they're there to fight against the oil clubs for us and the good of the game eh

They whazzed away 100s of millions under Hicks and Gillet that they didn’t have and when the banks came calling for it rather than being wound up like they should have been, they just got all their mates to cry in the media for weeks on end and got a load of friendly judges to effectively forcibly give the club to FSG who paid a pittance for it as a distressed asset.

Not only did they get to start again with a clean slate, FSG got to sell all the assets like Mascherano Alonso Arbeloa Torres etc. that they’d illegally piled up and use the money to buy the likes of Suarez and Coutinho. Should have gone into administration that year, slapped with a points deduction and forced into a fire sale.

Now they’re lecturing everyone else on net spend as they spend 100s of millions to stay on top.

Didn’t they spend a billion in the time between their last league title up to their next one - the 2020 Covid* title?

Socialist FC indeed

Even in their darker years they still slashed millions after millions after millions away to try to compete. They went years without CL money. But no, it’s all good cos they was boss in the 70s and sing an anthem before kick off or something.

Everton get relegated to the Business House League if they do what they did under Hicks and Gillette
