Transfer Rumour Douglas Luiz

No, not unless we needed exactly his profile to do a very specific job and that would complete our squad. He wasn't THAT good. Juve paid that and they overpaid.

Don't get me wrong - huge, immediate upgrade over Garner. It's just not smart squad building in the long term and we have to be incredibly smart to get back to where we want to be.

Signing a 27/28 peak aged midfielder who was a top 4 sides best CM by a distance gives the squad a massive injection. You need the odd instant star to level up the whole team.

Related question, because this is where my head goes with it, would you rather him for 40m or Hackney for 20m?

Douglas-Luiz because he could knit defence to attack to make us even better on transition.

Having the likes of him unleash the front 4 could prove to be lethal.

His last season, he played 35 league games, scoring 9, playing 53 games in total with Europe/cups. 10 assists that season too. 20+ goal involvements.

Villa finished 4th - their highest position since 95-96.

His last season earned him a £50m transfer to Juventus.

I actually thought it was a very good deal by Juve. He was class and ive mentioned him in the past when he wasnt used as often.

Just on the flipside, 4 of those goals were pens, and Juve paid 50m and realised their mistake so quickly they're trying to get their money back after one season.

No.

Juventus use a slow build up. Alcaraz is excellent playing directly and quick on the transition to do damage.

He didnt fit into their, Southamptons or Flamengo's passing game.

Douglas-Luiz would be the same. Put him in our team, play it to him quickly on the counter then see him release our 4.

if @Zatara is championing anyone over the age of 22 then people need to pay attention.

Oh my god, the end is nigh, I agree with every word.

Gibson? Pienaar? and I know Moyes never signed him but Dunc was hardly a model pro either.

I don't think Moyes minds a few 'characters' in the dressing room. It's hard to control every aspect of a players life. I suspect he'll give people a chance if there's ability, and a willingness to train and be available. VDM and Drenthe never did that for any great period, he still tried to give them opportunities though.

He signed Royton Drenthe (what ever his name is) and Van der Meyde

This is the same Douglas Luiz whose passes into the final third, progressive passes and progressive carries were all just slightly above average in this last season at Villa? And his shot and goal creation from open play was *below* average?

This is what I mean like, he's a good player and triple the player of Garner - and I totally agree he gives the squad a massive immediate injection, and balances nicely next to Gana - but I just don't think he does or is on the level that people think. And for the rumoured price that gives us a biiig PSR hit considering we won't recoup it, I'm not convinced.

Anyway this is purely academic, I'm just a big overthinker. Like I said I'd hugely enjoy watching him play for us if he signs

Im not understanding your first paragraph?

Below/Above average compared with what?

I said in the transfer thread I think he’s a top player.
If his temperament is suspect then I’d be cautious. If it’s true he’s forcing a move I’d be concerned.
The operative words being - if it’s true.
To be fair to him, when you see him on the pitch he doesn’t look the snide horrible type who would cause problems.
If he’s been waiting for better offers sack it. Move on to someone else.
The report is from Romano who's hit rate is pretty gash these days.
He's an agents puppet , so I would take anything from him with a large pinch of salt.
Regarding Luiz forcing a move , we,ve not heard a peep from him or his camp at all.
Yet every outlet for for weeks have been pushing the narrative Juve are pushing him out this summer and has no future with them.

It's made to look bad on the player in plenty of these situations and Juve are hardly a virtuous institution.

Think it will draw to a conclusion very quickly now.
