Transfer Rumour Douglas Luiz

I understand, there is just something not quite right about this. IF his form was dipping while at the end of his time at Villa and Juve want out after one season, the last thing we need is 40mil + on a 28 year old on high wages who is not interested

If it were for DL from before that period 40 mil is a no brainer - it is just a bit off that is all, we are so desperate for a bit of quality and a big name we would forgo the alarm bells.

His stats from Juve: Starting eleven: 3, Substituted in: 16, On the bench: 6, Suspended: 0, Injured: 13, Absence: 0 Goals:0 assist:0
He played about 500 minutes all season 5.5 games in total for 50 mil!!
Yeah this is basically how I feel about it. You spend 40m and high wages on a 28 year old if you have one very specific piece of the puzzle to fill in your squad to contend for trophies next season. We are in the exact opposite situation

Do you think if his performances at Villa in his last season were replicated with us this season, he'd be worth £40mil?

No, not unless we needed exactly his profile to do a very specific job and that would complete our squad. He wasn't THAT good. Juve paid that and they overpaid.

Don't get me wrong - huge, immediate upgrade over Garner. It's just not smart squad building in the long term and we have to be incredibly smart to get back to where we want to be.

I am concerned that we won't get him. Other clubs with more money and CL/EL will surely hijack him?
And if we will, he will be crap, too expensive, his agent will screw us and he won't bring Alisha Lehmann with him.
So many concerns.

His last season, he played 35 league games, scoring 9, playing 53 games in total with Europe/cups. 10 assists that season too. 20+ goal involvements.

Villa finished 4th - their highest position since 95-96.

His last season earned him a £50m transfer to Juventus.

Just on the flipside, 4 of those goals were pens, and Juve paid 50m and realised their mistake so quickly they're trying to get their money back after one season.

He turned 27 in May FFS. £40m for a player who is proven in the premier league and is at his peak is good value. Imagine the last year didn’t happen and we were signing him straight from Villa. We would all be creaming ourselves. I’m not aware of him having any serious injury in the last year so unless his attitude has dropped off a cliff there is no reason to think he won’t slot back into the premier league like he was never away.
