Match Thread Blackburn 1-0 Everton. Sat July 19th 3pm.

How much of this is down to Moyes' previous regime with us? Dyche's finishes with us were 17th, 15th and then he left us in 16th. It's understandable if some are prepared to give Moyes more latitude. It's like going back to a woman/man you know is "capable" - it's before the watershed
I don’t disagree. I’m just saying that Dyche got blasted for saying pre season isn’t about tactics yet I see some fan channels on YouTube saying exactly that as an excuse for yesterday.

Whatever happens I think Moyes will have us better than Dyche ever could because he is a far superior manager. However, I think we need to find a standard and stick to it regardless of who we are judging. Only that way will we ever get to where we want to be because we won’t get blinded by emotion and remain objective

There’s a difference though. We played bleeding Sligo rovers to start before then playing league 2 opposition.

This time we started with league 2 and then jumped to championship.

I don’t mean any offence to Sligo, but they were expected to be like ATV Irdning and be a rout and we were losing to them until the 84th minute. It was appalling, even if just for fitness.

Moyes also gets leeway because he just got us 31 points from half a season and saved us from relegation. Whilst also not talking us down every chance he gets.
I agree with you in some senses but if we are saying pre season isn’t about tactics then does the opposition really matter?

Let's be honest, yesterday was rubbish and even if we're using the 'fitness' element, some of the lads didn't really exert themselves.

But I would much rather we did it now rather than come Leeds or Brighton. They'll have more games under their belt, new additions and it'll be fine.

The opposition really doesn’t matter as long as they can make a game competitive. If you just waltz through and win 8-0 without having to break sweat there’s an issue, but championship sides are clearly good enough to give you a game and there’s honestly no issue with not playing anybody any higher than that.
