How much football do you watch?

Reading through the Everton transfer thread, it is full of players that I have never heard of, which got me thinking, the last games not involving Everton I have watched was when Spain won the Euros. I probably watched about half of Evertons games last season.

Other than Everton, I would struggle to confidently name a starting 11 for any other team.

How much are you watching?
Hardly any now

Pretty much all weekend long. Always completely spent by the weekend so I go for a run in the morning and then have football on either actively or running in the background. It just feels like home. I love watching sports in general so I'll also have F1 or cycling on at times.

But after 10 years in Vienna, I have fallen in love with FK Austria here so will be going to the stadium more often which will cut back significantly the time spent watching footy on the telly.

I used to all the time about 10 years ago. Knew all the players in all the top leagues and the championship etc. Now I have very little interest, its just not the game it used to be.

I get that money has always been a factor but now its just a joke. I still watch Everton because its Everton but im fully aware that until rules are changed that its impossible to bridge the revenues that 6 clubs get every season and how those revenues give them something like a 3-4 times advantage every season over the rest.

That means that even if Everton finish above Man Utd one season like last season. Man Utd will spend on average 3-4 times a season more to get back in front and that is an impossible thing to bridge long term. Its a guarantee for the 6 clubs that they will always keep their place long term. One bad season maybe two yes but they will be back because their advantage is so gigantic and the rules completely favour them for this.

I watch our games and put on the TV other PL games but im not engrossed as i used to be.

Even the love and emotion of my own team is being ripped away from me.

When i go the game im completely in the zone, but watching it on telly im kinda like not that arsed anymore.
With each passing season im becoming less and less emotionally involved.

Thats down to many things like diving, over hyped players, transfer fees, bellend referees, kick off times to suit TV, almost a non contact sport, VAR, everything really! Its so far away from a working class sport its scary and yet the passion, dedication of all working class fans are what got it to where it is today.

The covid era shows us exactly how massively important the fans are to making it the spectacle that it is, but greed has taken over now and its become unaffordable for many which is sad.
Players don't have ambition no more just what's the best contract, no loyalty at all.

Very little other than Everton now, early 2000's in my peak powers on Champ Manager I could name ya most players in any big league in the world, nowadays I don't know players we are linked with from the PL never mind abroad.

For me it ended when the Spanish waiter got appointed. I can’t bring myself to watch England, it’s absolutely terrible. Maybe Dave Moyes will help me back with my love of the game.

I wonder what the overlaps is between those that only watch Everton 'cos they cant be arsed with all the rest of the drivel that's on, and if these same individuals swerved off the last world cup. I wonder.

Only Everton games.

I watch well more NFL games than Premier League games and I've not watched any Champions League games for a few years.

Quite a bjt. Having two young kids means everything I used to enjoy I can't do any more, so I got Sky. But... it's almost always the Sky 6 on, so it's actually quite dull. It's weird that Man United finished 16th but were on telly so much. I'm so sick of watching Arteta's boring, boring Arsenal who seem to be on all the time. Found I've got more enjoyment out of Sky for the cricket, F1, golf and Lions. Probably 'watch' (so far as I'm able to with two kids) a couple of games a week, though.

Don't think I've ever watched a champion's league game. A tournament designed to give the 'correct' result. Who've we had win it who wasn't one of the Europe mega rich teams? Port? Boring. Very boring.

No where near as much as I used to. Obviously, living in Spain, I don't go the match so it's all on telly.

Watch Everton games but I don't mind going outside for a ciggie during the match whereas I used to wait till half time. Watch some other matches because my son wants to watch them but if he goes out to watch a match in the bar with his mates, I'll often watch something on Netflix.

I try to stay as culturally aware of live football as I was in my teens, but life has a funny way of telling me there's more important matters than watching games not involving Everton.

You've gotta make bank, lads. Although, working from home comes with procrastination. You can't win.
