Favourite 3 and worst 3 transfers you can remember.

Maybe not the best but the excitement when we got Lukaku on a perm makes it a favorite. Best value I can recall is probably either Barry or Gana. Throw tarks in as well. We’ve also had really good value transfers like Stones and Branthwaite.

Worst - Pretty much everything Koeman did. He set us back years…

Best
Lukaku: The best young striker coming to us on loan, then permanently a year later. Really felt like things were changing for the better.

Gueye: We had to sign him as his own replacement after trying with Gbamin/Allan. 'nuff said.

Branthwaite: Bought after his senior breakthrough, given chances but wasn't overplayed, and after a successful loan he's now our most valuable player. Should be the model for all our transfers.

Worst
Sandro: Cheap, came from Barca and hit double figures in spain. Forgot how to play football once he joined.

Gbamin: Not entirely his fault but a complete non-entity for 20m+

Klaassen: Completely out of depth, another 20m+ wasted

Favourite has different interpretation as you could argue it requires a certain amount of hindsight.

However, in the moment favourites I'd say in chronological order.

1) Lineker was only in school at the time but remember coming out of the Mexico WC it felt like a massive deal and it was Everton. Shame it didn't last longer.

2) Kanchelskis - Considering the amount of angsting were doing atm, it was genuinely exciting to get a proper direct quick goal scoring winger, form Man U, and he wasn't past his prime. First and last time I ever bought a shirt with a players name on it.

3) Was gonna go for Rom as the recent signing but think I'll go with Richy. Big fee, big promise, Brazilian but hard working and seemed an 'Everton' player from day 1.

Worst? faaaarrrrrrr to many to mention lol quickly off the top of my head

Kroldrup, Van der Meyde stand out as most underwhelming contenders.

Just plain crap and we should never have even bought them? step forward Brett Angel 🤣

Idrissa Gueye - “he’s rubbish Dad Villa were relegated he’ll be crap” I havent lived that one down.

Yakubu - signing a really good striker who you knew was a sure thing. Non nonsense just got it done

Wild card one - selling Rodwell to City for a fortune when you knew he wasn’t all that.

Worst:

Simon Davies - worst player I’ve seen play for the club

Klaassen - scouts should’ve seen that coming
Was quite funny the lads who gambled early on him sticking to the 'unseen work' line though

Made me look up a list of our transfers over the years in efcstatto.

Part inspiring when you think what we paid for the key members of that 84-87 squad, even by the standards of the day (all of these in the age of £1m+ fees):
Graeme Sharp £120k
Big Nev £150k
Adrian Heath £700k
Kev Sheedy £100k
Peter Reid £60k
Derek Mountfield £30k
Alan Harper £100k
Trevor Steven £300k
Andy Gray £250k
Paul Bracewell £425k
Pat vdH £100k
Gary Lineker £800k

Considering we also had Ratcliffe & Stevens who had come through the ranks, what a bargain squad that was!

We did also spend for nothing like the same return before it all went mental with the Sky money.

Mickey Walsh £325k
John Gidman £650k
Jim McDonagh £250k
Alan Biley £300k
Paul Wilkinson £250k
Ian Wilson £300k
Neil McDonald £525k
Mike Newell £850k
Stefan Rehn £400k
Mike Milligan £850k

Always been hits and misses, I guess.

Beardsley (one season calling him Quasimodo, the next amazed)
Duncan and Kev Campbell

Worse. Brett Angell, Andy Van Der Meyde ( I so wanted to see his sniper celebration) Did Roystton Drenthe sign or just a loan?

Bearsley was incredible. Remember, Children, he came in at the tail end of our all-time great side as we hit the buffers of decline. We knew great players when we saw them back then as we had so many so recently - but he was different class. Right up there. I mean, this wasn't a surprise. He was a key player in the greatest Liverpool team that competed with ours. What was a surprise was that he would cross the Park and, more, still be as great as ever. A brilliant, technical player. His history - and subsequent controversy - has impacted his rep here, but he definitely makes an all-time Everton squad in my book.

You all need to get out more.
See the world.
Touch the grass.
Smell the flowers.
Feel the sand between your toes and the waves wash over you.
Interact with real people.

Freaks.

Best Kanchelskis. Speed. Carlo.

Worst. Not sure really. I always hope new players can come good. I guess alcaraz (not charly) was always going to be bad !
