Crystal Palace and the Europa League

Also, what other post was inaccurate sorry? The shareholding of Textor which makes him the majority shareholder?

If textor has wanted to buy Everton he would have needed to sell his Palace shares - the idea of a blind trust was muted too. Why? Because we play in the same competition.

It’s fundamentally the same issue now with Palace and Lyon. Albeit he’s now sold his shares after the deadline.

Rather than using an AI generated summary. Watch the interview:

4.55 in. He says he feels sorry for clubs and is glad deductions didn’t result in relegation but rules are rules. Even if you disagree with them or think they’re unfair and they should be applied evenly.

I feel sorry for Palace. But how is it fair for Forrest to follow the rules and ensure the use of a blind trust but Palace dont and then still don’t get punished? This is completely on the Palace board. If your ownership had got their house in order by the deadline then it’s a non-issue.

You’ve not been treated unfairly. This rule has been applied fairly across all clubs in the competition.

The summary is helpful in as much as it puts into perspective Parish’s feelings on Everton’s situation. He is pretty even handed for someone who isn’t an Evertonian. You however, are an Evertonian and are 100% for “Rules are Rules” and yet strangely I don’t seem to remember any posts supporting your steadfast stance at the time of Everton’s case.

Forest qualified for the Conference. They didn’t need to put their shares in a blind trust for that. Now they are in the Europa League, they didn’t need one either. I have no problem with Forest as a club, or their fans and given Palace’s current position, it’s fair that they are the club to replace Palace.
UEFA’s inadequate and inconsistently applied rules on MCO’s (which Palace aren’t even in and never have been) isn’t (completely on the Palace board).

Textor was the majority investor. He had a 25% vote on the Board. Parish always had the casting vote. This is in the Palace Board Constitution. It is therefore Palace’s opinion that Textor did not have control or significant influence. You made the mistake of conflating 42% investment with meaning that in your opinion he must have had significant influence. You also said that “ he had a say” and that he had significant interest. Those two things contradict each other. In the first UEFA would clear Palace, in the second they would not.

I’ll claim for an Everton throw even if I saw the Everton player kick it out. Football fans are fickle. Of course i felt aggrieved by Everton’s insane points deduction but I didn’t feel aggrieved by Everton being charged. A fair punishment the deduction wasn’t, especially compared to other cases at the time.

I also put the blame at the door of our incompetent owner and directors. They’re the ones who put us in the position to face the punishment.

Honestly, I really like Palace. Was made up you won the FA Cup Final. But I just think the Palace board need to be taking a bit of more the blame for this. Especially Textor.

Ah, Textor. We certainly can agree on that. I am made up that the shyster never got near Everton.
I take your point about the Board, it is undeniable that had the shares been put into a threadbare blind trust, then the rules would have been safely circumnavigated. But it would have made no difference to the actual rules.
I think most Palace fans think that this technical infringement does not warrant expulsion. A financially stable club, never any PSR issues, living within it’s means, having to give up it’s place and see Textor’s Lyon and Maranakis’s Forest compete in their place is somewhat ironic.

It's all on Palace, i can't believe the uproar about it.

ironically they are better off, more chance of winning the Conference League and hardly any difference in prize money

The city group were forced to make changes by a deadline last season with Girona. They did it.

Forest made the changed by the deadline.

Palace didn’t. It’s really that simple. I feel for the fans but as other users have pointed out, this is on the ownership.

Despite how much I dislike them, I can understand why forest would be annoyed if they had sorted their ownership situation out on time only for Palace to break that rule and not face punishment.

You either for the rules of the game being implemented or not. You cant cry out when you feel like a ‘big’ club is getting away with it and then say oh it’s unfair on Palace.
Agree with this especially. IIRC, Brighton, Man City, Man United, AC Milan, Aston Villa, Nott Forest, RB all have had to put the stake that their owners hold in another club into a blind trust just in the past couple of years. Obviously, Parish believes that Crystal Palace isn't in a MCO group, but the rules I've read suggest that they are. Still don't know how Parish & the rest of the Palace board ignored the UEFA emails on the topic.

Just on your MCO point; UEFA acknowledged weeks ago that Palace are not in an MCO (which the rules were designed to manage). Most if not all of the clubs you have as examples are in MCO groups. But that is a moot point anyway. The issue is whether Textor exerted through his investment controlling or significant influence at Palace whilst owning Lyon. UEFA, despite evidence to the contrary, have ruled that he does. Palace were caught by the rule designed for MCO clubs, despite not being in an MCO. Somewhat unfortunate. The business about emails and blind trusts are only relevant in that they would have helped Palace circumnavigate UEFA’s own rules, which Palace did not believe that they were contravening and so any action in that direction would be unnecessary. We are where we are.

Uefa know the rules are stupid and bullshit, that's why they put the loophole there. Palace hierachy have to take some blame for finding the club in this position.

It's great for them anyway. Every English team should be making the final of that Conference League. Fiorentina, Rayo Vallecano, Mainz and Strasbourg from the other top 5 leagues. The trophy is yours if there's anything about you. Win that, get consecutive years in Europe and give the Europa a go.

Chances are Forest get dumped at the QF/SF stage (if they do well) and probably won't be in Europe the following year.

I'd understand the fallout if Palace were being dropped from the champions league, but the Europa League? Meh.
