Gardening with Joey

Our garden is still very crap compared to yous lads, Joey especially, but early days - currently just looking after the yard and the wife doing up the roses and strawberries and smaller things like that.

Got any experience/tips for dichondra, anyone? We tried to plant it and followed instructions but it didn't work so will retry next week most likely, if it's not hotter than the sun outside.

Also due to travelling lately the stupid small cherry we bought is now struggling and will likely die ffs. But, of course, the pear we're not fans of is producing quite well - a fruit we have no one in the family enjoying and we make 0 effort to look after before I cut the tree down, just doing its thing on its own neglected own self...

Also (pt. 2) - we have two huge walnut trees, one early and one late, so we're naturally making some liqueur with the early one as it's started having decently soft fruit and it was about the right time. Will report if it is any good in about a month and a half or two I guess  Late one will get the same treatment in a few weeks too.

Dimmock or Titchmarsh in your esteemed opinion Brother Joseph?😉😂👍
Charlie Dimwit & Alan Tithead joking - most respected presenters over the years Geoffrey Smith,Roy Lancaster met him twice - Geoff Hamilton met him once not just to say hello both Roy who I met training was brilliant student destined for big fame -
David Bellamy was a Botanical genius too...
His book a text to Botany was brilliant
For all that I owe a hell of a lot to 3 brothers who trained me from the age of 16 years old - their motto Attention to Detail served me well @tonyhorne knew one of them well who was a wise Gentleman

We used to watch Percy Thrower on the telly. He always wore a collar and tie like the old head gardeners. His one was: The answer lies in the soil. It became a bit of a mantra.
Percy - Shrewsbury's Park's Manager - became the first millionaires Horticulturist - mainly via advertising his famous advert on ITV made his fame .....
He was spot on, as a nurseryman Parks Nursery Superintendent if your potting compost is rubbish - so are you .....

I was one of the first peat free growers hence the top people I met ....

Hi @Joey66 can you help ?

There’s a little ornamental pond not far from ours, that’s full of fish, but in a bit of a bad state due to lack of maintaining.

It’s full of weed ( not a problem, as that can be raked out ) but the big problem as I see it, is that small willows have taken root on the edges and are advancing year on, as they dry the edges of the pond out.

I know from other ponds in the area, that if left unchecked, they’ll eventually dry the whole pond out as they advance towards the middle.

Me and my lad are planning on tidying the pond up and although we won’t be able to get the willows out at their roots, we’re going to cut them down at water level.

Will this be enough to kill them and stop their advance / if not how else can we kill them ?
