Ravanelli by all accounts (and by accounts I mean from my memory) was in the wane in Italian football career (from what I recall though I’m sure stats could show me otherwise). Muller was in his Brazilian international prime, and Riquelme was a borderline superstar.

Think we were trying to sign him from Middlesbrough, he scored 25 plus in a relegated Side the previous year.

In his 2006 book Rooney said he would've gone to Newcastle had Man Utd not come in for him he was that desperate to get away from the City of Liverpool and David Moyes. What Rooney got wrong was he had 2 years left on his contract not 3 as he states in this.
