New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

I promise this is not a pop at you, just that reading your post made me think…
Imagine being able to say that you were at the first ever match at Goodison Park. D’you ever wonder what it looked like back in 1892?
There will come a time when some of us can say that about BMD/HD. This is a once in a 100+ years event, and we are SO privileged to be “here” and “now” to be part of history.
And, yes I’ve been drinking…hic
I do wonder if in 1905 Evertonians were beginning to believe Goodison had jinxed us especially after this;
"The weather robbed Everton of recording their second League championship in 1904/05. Their match at Woolwich Arsenal in November was abandoned after 76 minutes due to fog with Everton leading 3-1. When the match was eventually played again, just before the end of the season when they had to play 3 matches in 4 days, Everton lost 2-1. If the original match had been completed (and if the scoreline had remained the same), Everton would have pipped Newcastle to the title by a point."
Fortunately we won the Cup in 1906 to end a 15 year drought after leaving Anfield.

Possibly the very first “Everton, that”…

That's fine - but why does everything have to be sentiment with Evertonians? Why can't we just actually have a finished stadium on opening day? If that's too much to ask, then it doesn't augur well.

I'm simply saying that this beautiful stadium - and it is beautiful - still does not look finished (because it clearly isn't). The roofs should have been painted. The concrete walls should have been painted. Scaffolding should be gone. Clearly, it's behind where is should be - but that's not to say it won't be finished by opening day. We should certainly hope it is.

And, no, I don't accept that we can do all that later in the new season. This should be ready - because first impressions matter. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the club to promote itself as forward-looking, serious, and progressive: a chance to return to our previous status as a leading club. And while we've all been sitting marveling at this magnificent new construction, doling out lavish praise to people and pinching ourselves, the club risks falling down at the final hurdle.

I'll be staggered if my "gripes" are not actually addressed by opening day. I don't care about spelling out Everton on white seats. But the roofs need painting, the bare concrete needs painting, and the scaffolding and detritus needs to be gone. It would a huge pity if we go into the new season under the TV lights giving the impression of sloppiness or all fur coat, no knickers.

Not to sound obtuse, but who says it isn't? There are still three and a half weeks until the Roma game, and a further two weeks until Brighton.

Yes there may have been issues and some snagging to be done, but on a build this size it's natural; a lot can, and will, be done before then.

In terms of the aesthetic finishes, which is what most of this is, in an ideal world it would be done now and for mid-August, but look at the practicalities.

But the reality is that it will have the minimalist of impact if it isn't completely done, and it will allow the club to spend time and expertise on it.

I do believe, however, that within the time-frame we will see more of the graphic design stuff (basically, layerings on walls) fitted as it doesn't take long.

When Arsenal opened the Emirates, it took them over a year for what they referred to as the complete 'Arsenalisation' of the stadium, to their standard.*

My concern is whether the turnstiles work, I can get in safely, buy a pint beforehand and watch the game; whether there's a mural on a wall is immaterial.

*I looked at a few pictures of the completed Emirates, and it doesn't appear their wraps on seating was done. Were they held back by it?

It is “finished” though isn’t it. We’ll be playing a first competitive game there in about 6 weeks.
I do get what you mean that bits and pieces will probably be ongoing for a while after, but it will be evolving organically over years and years in and around the place with regards to improvements and upgrades to a variety of stuff.

I have to say that the roofs are grating on me now. Admittedly those are still work areas with the scaffolding but when that and various other bits of equipment and bits and bobs are removed they will certainly need the screed finish.

The weather staining there is very apparent as it is for the roofing along the barrel cladding.

Those areas look unsightly at present. I'd assume that they will be cleaned up by 24th August. It's not that it won't be done, but as you say, it needs to be done by kickoff.

For me, it's just about pride in your home and presenting it in its best light to everybody - and what a magnificent home it is.

I see the loge seats have sold out for Brighton. Someone has dropped just under 2k for 1 seat (there was 4 available)
