Everton Youth Teams Thread

You don't think we currently have too many players for the small number of games we play each season?
Depends if you're including those returning from loans in your count. The likes of Okoronkwo, Welch Armstrong and Metcalfe are never likely to play a 21s game again. Currently it's too many but that's obviously not going to be the case once they all leave.

These squads always look massive and yet we had 18s games with 2 subs named last season. We always have injuries with younger players and we're playing more games this season.

The only real issue I can see is that currently we have 1 too many highly rated keepers who will probably not find a loan. I'd be shocked if any of Pickford, Doug or Seve get a loan and so we have 3 keepers vying to start for 2 squads.

Yeh I was showing the current U21 squad, and U18's (minus scholars) and it's enormous. We'll see come end of the window but I still think the 21's will be too big. I think in re: keepers youth football it's a lot safer to keep swapping keepers around so you could maybe see Seve as U18's and Doug/Pickford do half the U21's?

Probably start Barnsley now won't they.

….Justin Clarke an interesting one, not least because the club invested monies in acquiring him. I’d be thinking he’ll be with U21 group this season, maybe with the option of using him as a central striker at times.

Also, be interesting if anybody forces themselves into Moyes thinking in pre-season given Dobbin did it two seasons ago and Dixon last summer.

Dixon? You meaning Armstrong? I know Dixon started a match but for me that was really down to injuries, he never showed enough really in pre season or afterwards to force himself into contention for me .

I just think a lot of the senior 21s have injury issues like Ebere, Benjamin, Boakye, Tamen all missed serious time last year off the top of my head. By the time the 18s may be ready to step up there will be gaps opened up for them.

Doug still has a year of 18s eligibility so it's possible he floats between the 2 squads to rotate. It's not like he looked like Neuer at 18s level but the club still probably want to push him on ASAP so would fill in for Pickford every now and then assuming all are healthy.

I'm really hoping they just use Barnsley as the senior 3rd choice keeper which keeps him out of the youth rotation.

….no, I meant Dixon. I mean from pre-season. He seemed to impress enough in pre-season for him to be given an opportunity, he was brought into the fold before reverting back. Two years ago I thought Stan Mills might be the one in pre-season but Dyche was clearly more impressed with Dobbin.

Maybe somebody outwith Harrison could impress Moyes this time.

Possibly Jenson Metcalfe as he's impressed in training up in Scotland
