Sun cream plastered on at 7am

Big day of trail racing in Cumbria today - 100km and a 50km starting at Ambleside and going high up into the fells at the back.

The 100k started at midnight, so they`ll probably be okay, but the 50k runners started at 8am and I reckon there`ll be a lot of DID NOT FINISH amongst them due to the heat and it gets hotter the higher up you go too.

Yeh it’s a beautiful day for a beer up here but not so much for exercise. I tried a 5k earlier but had to give up with the heat 😂 my mates are starting coast-to-coast (Hadrian’s Wall one) this morning and they’re dying already.

For the first time in ages I sacked off my morning run. The runs tend to be ok, it's more you never cool down all day. Then you try and do something and you just break into sweat

There`s nothing you can do to train for this heat in this country, which is the problem.

You can run/walk/cycle as far as you want, but when you throw heat like this into the mix, it`s a killer.

I did a long distance race in Cumbria, in similar heat a few years back and out of 1200 people who started, over 300 dropped out along the way, inc some proper athletes. It becomes an endurance test, rather than a race and is a bit of a bottle tester.

Me too, it reaches a point where it becomes stupid and dangerous.

I did a 10k yesterday and drank a full litre of water on the way round, with a lot of walking up the hilly bits.

….one of my granddaughters is celebrating her 5th birthday, she’s had the party with her pals so our son is doing a BBQ for family in his today. I’ll be going armed with a bottle of Aussie Whites and take up a position in the kitchen, it’s going to be very hot in that garden.
Aussie Whites 😱
I only ever went to Yate's once and only because a mate was introducing me to Ernie Shavers. Had two schooners to be polite. Don't remember much else about the night.

What was Ernie like? Others that have met him say the nicest gent going. Ali said he hit the hardest out of everyone he faced. High praise indeed.

Ah, the old saying - "if you can't stand the heat, go into the kitchen"
