Everton Youth Teams Thread

Yep got a very good cross and set piece in him for a right-back. Powerful runner too and large lad as he's been used as a centre half at times too. Needs to be first choice all U21 season.

….yep, good size & physicality to him too. It’s good to have the basics, but it’s such a leap to becoming a first teamer. Good luck to him.

….its usually a sign that you have a star or two, disappointing deservedly going out after getting a decent home draw.

I know you say this often, but you always reference like Rooney and Osman, how many FA Youth Cup winners since then (all teams) have produced a star or two? Unless it's an obvious winner like a City, not a lot I'd say, Forest got to the final like 3 or 4 years ago, not a single player in their side has played for their first team and that's with time spent in the Championship.

Their squad that year with current clubs, as an example: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nottingham-forest-u18/kader/verein/12799/saison_id/2021

It's a cup competition - anything can happen no matter how good you are.

I think his all-round package, personally, is already above someone like Dixon. Been doing a few "best" XI's in my head for next season U21 team and I think it could be exciting.
There’s plenty of good potential in the u21s , youngsters coming from last season’s u18s plus a few existing ones who’ve been around the first team. A mid table finish was just about acceptable last season but they rarely excited as a team or looked like one who could make an impact. Time for the “ new set up” to be harsh , if Tait is not able to get the best out of the u21s then it’s time to move him on .

….probably changed since the influx of foreign youngsters but many of the top players won that competition (Rooney’s team beaten in the final but he was the only one in that side).

I think Gazza won it, obviously the United youngsters, Joe Cole, Burnley with Dave Thomas, Hurst and Husband for us, Richard Dunne, Osman and Hibbert. It’s THE competition for youngsters and their clubs, our team came up short last season.

Yeh I basically just want the U21 starting XI next season to be the U18 starting XI from last with just a couple of tweaks

I'd go for maybe:

Pickford/Doug

Finney
Tamen
Thomas
van Schoor? Bit of a weak position in the academy again

Patterson
Gomez
Foster

JBC
Graham/Morgan/Loney?
Benjamin/Clarke (Unless he stays U18)

But then it's like do you keep using Sherif or Ebere and stunt Clarke and Graham?

The squad is too big for me to satisfy all with how little games we play.

Yeh and look how far you're having to go back.

I highly doubt you watched us in the cup last season get knocked out, with Graham in the side, and thought "none of these are a potential star" did you.

Is George Finney the young lad who played right back for the U18’s last season? If he is I thought he was very good the three times I saw him.

Like honestly, how do you sort all this out? Loads need punting.

…it’s difficult to foresee (unless your watching Rooney or Osman), which is why I think the competition is such a good marker to confirm talent. I’m not totally sure but I think Graham missed games through injury at that time.
