Moving to Portsmouth

Portsmouth is a wonderful place to live. If you play golf you are very lucky. Pubs and restaurants are excellent in Old Portsmouth. Southsea Common is much used for events in the warmer months. Royal Naval dockyard is worth a visit. HMS Victory, etc. Isle of Wight is very accessible as is the New Forest. Lived there for 8 years. Always wished we had kids whilst there but they came later. Avoiding Fratton is, however, good advice.
I agree i spent loads of time there when I was a kid even went to school there for about six months when my mum was ill.
Though I was just an average player in Liverpool I was like Tommy Maradona down there.
Southsea was really nice and I spent many hours at Clarence Pier amusements, Navy days on board the Victory ect and went to a few matches at Fratton Park.
I am probably looking through rose ti ted glasses but I loved the place but bear in mind that was 60 years ago.

Looking for any advice or insight from any blues who live or have lived in the Portsmouth area. My family and I are moving from the states to Portsmouth next month and I'm just trying to get an idea of the lay of the land from peoole who have spent some time there. I'd appreciate ideas on where to go, things to do, places to avoid, etc.
Pie and Vinyl in Southsea is brilliant. A music shop that also sells pies!

When you’re there, it’s pronounced: Ports, mouth.

You’re welcome.

Spent a bit of time there between 2008 and 2012. Back then it was an alright enough place - some good restaurants and boozers. The people were normal in the main. Plenty of stuff to do around and about in the area too.

I went with my then Mrs for a day out in Brighton and watched the 2008 cup final in a pub. I was the only person watching the game as everyone else in there was watching the cabaret drag singer. I quite like showtunes so watching the footie with someone belting out some classics was pretty chilled. Pleased Pompey won. Got back to Portsmouth and it was like bloody Mad Max - whole place had gone nuts with a really nasty atmosphere. A drunk local staggered over to me in ASDA car park and slurred "now people are going to start taking this city seriously!" They sure are, buddy; keep reaching for that rainbow.
