I agree i spent loads of time there when I was a kid even went to school there for about six months when my mum was ill.Portsmouth is a wonderful place to live. If you play golf you are very lucky. Pubs and restaurants are excellent in Old Portsmouth. Southsea Common is much used for events in the warmer months. Royal Naval dockyard is worth a visit. HMS Victory, etc. Isle of Wight is very accessible as is the New Forest. Lived there for 8 years. Always wished we had kids whilst there but they came later. Avoiding Fratton is, however, good advice.
Though I was just an average player in Liverpool I was like Tommy Maradona down there.
Southsea was really nice and I spent many hours at Clarence Pier amusements, Navy days on board the Victory ect and went to a few matches at Fratton Park.
I am probably looking through rose ti ted glasses but I loved the place but bear in mind that was 60 years ago.
