Moving to Portsmouth

My uncle lives down there so we used to visit a lot when I was younger, I’ve seen Southsea mentioned which is nice, it’s been some time since I was last there, it was the Arsenal/Barca CL final I know that much.

The Gunwharf place is alright too, but again I can’t remember much.

Not sure how any of this helps, sorry.

No worries, appreciate the input.

Avoid Fratton as others have said, but do go to Fratton Park, always a good atmosphere and cheap enough footy even if they aren't the best side these days.
South Downs are right on your door step as is the New Forest so heaps of outdoor activities, the beaches in the area are nice especially West Wittering which is about half hour east.
Be prepared to encounter a fair few Tories and Brexiters in these parts unfortunately.

It's been a long while since I lived there, but if you're actually living on the peninsula, I'd check out
Southsea / Eastney.
We started out in a married quarters flat in Eastney but got moved to a house on Portsdown Hill. Wonderful views of The Solent and IOW. Especially for the 50 years D-Day celebrations.

Happy to call a few lads from Pompey, mates; I would try not to engage them about football though.
They were truly insufferable after they won the FA Cup.

Plus, this guy I guess:

I kinda like Pompey, always plenty to do as a young lad, and I liked the way every small area/parish had its own group of shops/bars and identity. Forty odd minutes to London via train iirc and Scumhampton may be too close ;)

Southampton has one of the best municipal golf courses in the country. I remember Fore! magazine described one of the par 3s on the course as one of the best in the country as well.

There’s a running track near Southsea, I think, and when I was down there one time I got a new pair of spikes (I was quite good in my youth at the 200 and 400m you see) and I decided to try them out on there, got told off by some old man.

Like anywhere in England though, there’s some nice, some not so nice areas. I’m sure you’ll be fine, there’s a nightclub, or was, called the Fuzzy Duck, was decent in there.

Where’s @john jako he was in to semen.
