Moving to Portsmouth

Portsmouth is a wonderful place to live. If you play golf you are very lucky. Pubs and restaurants are excellent in Old Portsmouth. Southsea Common is much used for events in the warmer months. Royal Naval dockyard is worth a visit. HMS Victory, etc. Isle of Wight is very accessible as is the New Forest. Lived there for 8 years. Always wished we had kids whilst there but they came later. Avoiding Fratton is, however, good advice.

Thank you for providing an actual thoughtful reply. It's much appreciated.

Looking for any advice or insight from any blues who live or have lived in the Portsmouth area. My family and I are moving from the states to Portsmouth next month and I'm just trying to get an idea of the lay of the land from peoole who have spent some time there. I'd appreciate ideas on where to go, things to do, places to avoid, etc.
I've got a mate from Portsea...that's all I know.

Why would you commit to moving to a city in another country that you know nothing about?

Not being funny, genuinely interested!

ā€œHoney, we’re moving across the Atlantic to Portsmouth in the UK. We’re going next month, everything is arranged.ā€

ā€œGreat, what’s it like there?ā€

ā€œI have no idea. I’ll make a thread on GOT before we depart to find outā€¦ā€

I’m guessing it’s to do with The Forces, right @Melchizedek ?

If people only ever moved to places they have already lived, everyone would stay exactly where there are.

I'd like to experience more of the world than just the little corner of the Midwest I was born in.

Some may be happy being born, living and dying in a 60 mile area. I am not.
