2024/25 Jack Harrison

Real let James come to us on a ‘free’ with a year left on his contract.
So this scenario would effectively be a termination by mutual consent contingent on a new contract agreed with the second club, which comes back to the point I made a week or so ago about Harrison needing to agree to terms with Everton. For James, Everton agreed to a big wage bump, but here we'd definitely want a massive wage decrease.

Are you suggesting they'll terminate his contract by mutual consent and write down his book value as a loss? They could count it as a net gain by saving on wages and being free from the contract, but it's a big gamble from Harrison, who now needs to negotiate fresh terms with a new club.
Yes they’d probably realize a gain for the year (and the following 2…).

Difficult to imagine why Jack Harrison would do that, though.

If press is to be believed the price is already down to 7m from 20m

This won’t be a popular opinion on here but for the right price and on the assumption he isn’t being bought in as THE starting right mid I honestly wouldn’t hate this deal.

He isn’t good enough to start every week we know that but if we brought in a first choice right sided player and his contract was terminated I’d take him. PSR is a worry for everyone but it looks like our days of scrimping and saving are over. We have literally no squad especially on the right hand side. Unless you’re City, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool there’s always going to be a drop off in quality between your first choice and back up players. That’s just the position we find ourselves in. He can do a job, knows how Moyes wants to play so can work on being better in that system and as caveated wouldn’t be our starting right sided player. I wouldn’t be made up with that scenario but it wouldn’t offend me
