Confirmed Signing Thierno Barry

Not sure if already mentioned, but according to the BBC he was playing in the 5th tier just three years ago. Think that says a lot about him, I love stories like that.
Says a lot about his character but it does worry me in terms of his technical ability/fundamentals - the fact he was at Sochaux is promising though because think their academy is highly rated

I think in today's market 30mil for a striker is like spending 5 mil a decade ago. The lack of quality forwards out there in global football is astonishing really. The likes of Wood and even Beto would fetch far more money than we realise. For that reason I'm prepared to give this Barry kid a lot of time.

You've got Isak and Watkins maybe as the standouts and then its a massive drop in quality. If you think in Sheringham Andrew Cole, Shearer, Sutton etc and even Les Ferdinand era before that you had more quality and not necessarily from Europe or further afield either . I never count Chelski players as the club are basically cheating the whole system . If we could have bought from the PL we would have I bet if the data analysis stacked up. There is probably more money in the top academies tthese daya than ever before but not much coming down he production line. I think we have 1 or 2 in the younger age groups but they ate several years away from the bright lights of H.D. too I expect.

Signing an actual quality player for actual money. It made me think of that old Iain Macintosh Champ Manager series where he played as Everton and he was absolutely skint for two years before a miracle takeover:

We’re a proper football club again. We can build. We can say, “We need a new striker,” and then go off and actually buy one. A good one. This changes everything. It changes absolutely everything.

Let us support the lad and help him settle in. I implore folk not to do the usual judgement when he is 10 mins into a game. Start judging after half a season
He'll get a fair crack from reasonable people.

I think it works both ways, though. I never heard of the boy prior to last month so I've no reason to suspect he'll be anything extraordinary, fee or no fee. Anyone bigging him up right now is doing him no favours.

Although there is something to be said for an old, midget striker who would struggle to hit a cow’s arse with a banjo.
We've just got rid of the would struggle to hit a cow's arse with a banjo bit although we could add while wearing a girls school uniform into it. ;)
