So the level of protection from any previous vaccination is likely to not be very effective against this latest mutation.

I only learned a few years back that the Flu vaccine is effective to varying degrees each year because they have to do statistical modeling to anticipate which strains are likely to be dominant after the vaccine production and distribution timeframe. Sometimes they get it way off or a new mutation comes in and renders the vaccines ineffective for that season.

Yeah I’d just treat the two similarly now. Get the yearly jab like you would flu.
