2024/25 Everton Women - Super League & Cup Games

How is the recruitment model working for the ladies ie is it down to the manager, or do they have in place a structure like what is being proposed for the men?
Pretty sure recruitment is very agent driven in woman's football. Short contracts, low release clauses and majority of signings are players out of contract. Agents knocking doors. Lots of doors.

It must be frustrating. Lots of new signings every season. Those that do well you struggle to keep and the rest are either injured or you can't get rid of.

From the top of my head there are 3 current Everton players in the ongoing Euros. In addition there are 4 that left the club this summer playing. At least 3 that left the previous season.

Players are getting replaced, but it seems to always take time. A poor first half of the season before the team starts showing some promise. Just to begin again from scratch when the summer comes.

We've heard so much about intent, great signings and good managers the last few years, but the gap to the top teams keep growing. WSL pay well and seems to be the only competitive league in Europe. Lots of players that wants to come, but for a club such as Everton keeping their best players might be more important than recruitment if they want to improve.

Are we going to win the league with these signings then?
That's probably a big ask in the upcoming season - to my uninformed eye, it would seem a nice leap to be "best of the rest" this year, getting 10+ wins and into the upper 30's for points - a big lift from this past year.

Then, with another couple of windows adding more/stronger players, aim to be among the Top 4 for the following season (26/27). The next Women's World Cup is 2027 (Brazil) and I would think there should be even more movement of quality players prior to then as they aim to ensure they're playing consistently to ensure inclusion in national teams.

Getting 10 add wins we have not done for 16 years in the top league. If you aim to high and fail, you will be disapointed, I prefer to say go for 5th and if by a miracle we finish higher, you have archived something. We are still far behind the others. People dont seem to realise the top 3 plus man utd have very good squads and just add even more quality to it.

I agree, actually - I said it awkwardly - I'm looking for 10+ wins overall, not 10 additional wins on top of the 6 from this past weason. 5th place would be fine to my eye for 25/26.

5th i think we would have sneaked last season, if we had beat Brighton in April. People wrote us off saying 10th/11th/relegated last season,

Agreed - but 5th in last season's cluster wouldn't have been a clear statement - as one win vs Brighton would have gotten us up to 5th from 8th.

This season, getting into the upper 30s for points and a clear gap between Everton and "the rest" would be a real step forward for the team. That to me is a worthwhile goal.

Seems optimistic.

The league improves year on year. Even newly promoted London City Lionesses have several players that would arguably be Everton's best player if they signed for us.

On paper, Everton's squad seems significantly weaker than the one that finished last season. We can hope that the new signings will come in and deliver from start of the season, but that doesn't seem to happen at Everton.

And yes, I see that they try to create some hype around new players. As they do every summer. Every signing is a fantastic talent. It's been like this for years.

Everton scored 24 goals in 22 matches last season. That number must be doubled to get into upper 30s for points. And it's not like we've signed goal scorers this summer.

Everton got 30 points by scoring 29 goals just 2 years ago, plus 32 points by scoring 39 goals 5 years ago. Even in WSL 2 they scored 43 goals to get 31points

The last time Everton scored more than those 43 goals (WSL2) was when they came 2nd in 2009, scoring 67 in a 22 game season. Its not always about the goals. Its abou the defending. The team has had so many injuries all over the place the last few years that you can only use one hand for the amount of times the team stayed the same From one game to the next.

Even a game against Man City away a few years ago. They were due to have only one recognised defender in Meg Finnigan, and she went sick the night before. While players who are not actual defenders play in those back 4 positions alot of the time due to Injury
