Incredibly sad this accident and of course we want to wish their families our sincere condolences.

Does it really warrant headline news for three full days? There are countless road tragedies that get next to no coverage, equally devestating to those families.

It’s in the headlines so much because of how much of a massive shock it’s been, 2 active players, one of whom was a dad to 3 young kids with a 4th on the way and was on the first part of a journey back to start his 6th pre season with our neighbours and reigning champions gone before the age of 30

The lad who died in the plane on his way to Cardiff from France didn't get this level of coverage for his funeral.

Emiliano Sala, and they had to search the channel to find him because he was originally missing (the pilot still unfound), and the deal ended up in court because cardiff didn't want to pay 'cos he'd never turned up. Grim stuff all round.

Even grimmer when you look up what led to the accident.

I have to say I understand FCBarça to a degree*.

The deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre are a terrible tradgedy. And as someone said, it's just not normal for a 28 year old premier league footballer to die.
My problem is that it's becoming to be far too normal for Palestinian children to die. And in their case, it's no accident.

*He should understand that any celebrity death is bound to have a broader emotional impact due to our awareness of their existence. Seeing someone's face on tv and in newspaper photos regularly, hearing their name regularly, makes them feel part of our lives whether we like it or not. Moreso when lots of fans will have seen him in the flesh playing for our local rivals.

And whereas hearing the likes of Keir Starmer making the right noises while enabling genocide makes me sick to my stomach, I have seen, and he should also realise, that the vast majority of people on this forum are expressing their sadness and anger at the situation in Gaza on the appropriate space on this forum.

there is empathy for every innocent soul who is suffering.
Sorry, Jamo, but he worded his takes in a very condescending manner which was as far removed from true empathy as it could be.
I don't think anyone here feels it's "normal" that there are a lot of people dying in the wars going on in Ukraine, Palestine, Yemen... just don't come into a thread such as this and suggest people being shocked by Jota's passing somehow are morally inferior and shouldn't even be bothered because Jota was just another "millionaire footballer".

News reporting is data driven, if a story isn't getting the viewers or clicks the media would find something else to fill the space. This story is get the amount of coverage it is because the level of interest is very high.

Be interesting to see how long the media leave it before asking questions about the accident.

Wish they would stop with these pictures they are making for a few likes on social media.
Saw one with Bill Shankly carrying him into heaven.
We all know you are the best supporters ever, you don't have to prove it.
Let the poor brothers rest in peace and let the family grieve without them lot constantly in the news.
People who post stuff like that are weird beyond belief.
